Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Current shadcn Radix environment for Figma Make

This is the React-18-safe successor to the Base UI sync experiment.

Why Radix

Figma currently requires Make Kit design-system packages to support React 18.

Current shadcn supports Radix alongside Base UI. This package explicitly synchronizes the current Radix implementation.

The full current shadcn catalog also contains a small number of components backed by @shadcn/react. The current @shadcn/react package requires React 19 types, so the sync script detects and excludes source files that import it.

This is preferable to using --force or --legacy-peer-deps.

Start from this clean folder

Do not continue using the previous Base UI sync folder.

Run:

npm install
npm run sync:shadcn

When shadcn asks for a preset, choose Nova for the neutral current baseline we have been using.

After the sync completes:

npm install
npm run typecheck
npm run build
npm run pack:dry

If all four commands succeed:

npm publish --access public

What to expect

The sync should report that it:

  • used the radix base
  • copied the current UI catalog
  • removed any source files that directly depend on @shadcn/react
  • generated a SHADCN-SYNC.json manifest
  • rebuilt src/index.ts exports

Figma Make

After publishing 1.0.0:

"@rossorthwein/shadcn-make-kit": "1.0.0"

Keep:

@import '@rossorthwein/shadcn-make-kit/style.css';

in the Make Kit's src/styles/index.css.

Replace the Make Kit's four editable guideline files with the matching files in guidelines/. Keep the package-specific setup requirements that are already working unless they conflict with guidelines/setup.md.

Future updates

To refresh the package later:

  1. bump the version
  2. run npm run sync:shadcn
  3. select the desired current preset
  4. run npm install
  5. typecheck and build
  6. inspect SHADCN-SYNC.json
  7. smoke-test representative components
  8. publish
  9. update the Make Kit dependency version
