Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Nunjucks Template Rendering Engine Addons

github (author stars) github (author followers) github (project stdver) npm (project license) npm (project release) npm (project downloads)

Abstract

This is a small collection of addons for the powerful templating rendering engine Mozilla Nunjucks. It adds reusable globals, filters and extensions. It can be used standalone or in the companion Nunjucks CLI.

CLI Usage

$ npm install -g @rse/nunjucks-cli @rse/nunjucks-addons
$ nunjucks -e @rse/nunjucks-addons [...]

Alternatively, instead of globally installing it, you can also use it on-the-fly:

$ npx --yes --package @rse/nunjucks-cli --package @rse/nunjucks-addons -- \
  nunjucks -e @rse/nunjucks-addons [...]

API Usage

const nunjucks = require("nunjucks")
const addons   = require("@rse/nunjucks-addons")

const env = nunjucks.configure("-", {})
addons(env)
const output = env.renderString("Hello, {{ who }}!", { who: "World" })

Addons

  • date: this adds the Nunjucks filter date(<format>[, ...]) for formatting a Date object with the help of Moment.js. Example: {{ obj | date("YYYYMMD") }}

  • def: this adds the Nunjucks global function def(<value>, <valueDefault>, <valueType>) for using the input <value>, or if undefined the <valueDefault> as the fallback value, and converting the value to <valueType> (either bool, int, float or string). The underlying conversion filters are also exposed under toBool(value), toInt(value), toFloat(value) and toString(value). Example: {% set foo = def(foo, "bar", "string") %}

  • eval: this adds the Nunjucks extension eval <key>=<expr> [, ...] for evaluating the arbitrary JavaScript expression <expr> and assigning the resulting value to the Nunjucks context property <key>. It is similar to the built-in set extension, but works on evaluated expressions. Example: {% eval year = "(new Date()).getFullYear()" %}

  • exec: this adds the Nunjucks extension exec <code> endexec for executing arbitrary JavaScript <code> with the Nunjucks context as the global object. Example: {% exec %} foo = "bar" {% endexec %}

  • glob: this adds the Nunjucks global function glob(<pattern>[, <options>]) for expanding file paths with the help of the glob package. Example: {{ glob("*.txt") }}

  • jsonpath: this adds the Nunjucks filter jsonpath(<path>[, <count>]) and the Nunjucks global function jsonpath(<obj>, <path>[, <count>]) for selecing sub-fields of an object <object> with the help of the JSONPath query <path>. Example: {{ obj | jsonpat("store.book[0].title") }}

  • pad: this adds the Nunjucks filter pad(<num>[, <char>[, <toRight>]]) for formatting the input string value to <num> characters in length by padding it to the left (or to the right if <toRight> is true) with <char> characters. Example: {{ n | pad(2, "0") }}

  • sprintf: this adds the Nunjucks filter sprintf(<format>[, <arg>[, ...]]) and the Nunjucks global function sprintf(<format>[, <arg>[, ...]]) for formatting the input value (and optionally the additional arguments <arg>) with the help of POSIX sprintf(3) formatting specifications <format>. Example: {{ n | sprintf("%04.2f") }}

  • uuid: this adds the Nunjucks global function uuid(...) for generating Universally Unique Identifiers (UUID) with the help of Pure-UUID. Example: {{ uuid(1) }}
