Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Bun adapter for rustra-bridge

Readme

English | 한국어

@rustra/bun

Adapter that automatically connects the Rustra cdylib over a stable C ABI in Bun 1.4 environments.

Zero-config default path

Declare a host-neutral entry in the Rust crate with one line and enable cdylib.

rustra::native_entry!(app_package);
[lib]
crate-type = ["rlib", "cdylib"]

Add only "bun": {} to rustra.json. The generated file builds Release and Debug library candidates from Cargo metadata, verifies the actual ABI symbols, and lazily installs the Frame engine.

import { addNumbers } from './generated/bun.js';

const result = await addNumbers({ a: 20, b: 22 });

If the deployment layout differs, use RUSTRA_BUN_LIBRARY=/absolute/path/to/libapp.dylib.

Public API

type BunInvokeTransport = {
  invoke(command: string, args?: unknown): Promise<unknown> | unknown;
};

type BunEngineClient = {
  invoke<T>(command: string, args?: unknown): Promise<T>;
};

function createBunEngine(transport: BunInvokeTransport): BunEngineClient;

Usage examples

subprocess-based

import { createBunEngine } from '@rustra/bun';
import { spawn } from 'bun';

const engine = createBunEngine({
  async invoke(command, args) {
    const proc = spawn(['cargo', 'run', '-p', 'my-crate', '--', 'invoke']);
    // Communicates over JSON stdin/stdout
    return sendAndReceive(proc, { command, args });
  },
});

bun:ffi-based

import { createBunEngine } from '@rustra/bun';
import { dlopen } from 'bun:ffi';

const lib = dlopen('libmy_crate.so', {/* FFI signature */});

const engine = createBunEngine({
  invoke(command, args) {
    return lib.symbols.invoke(JSON.stringify({ command, args }));
  },
});

createBunEngine(transport) is the escape path for HTTP or custom FFI. The default createBunBootstrap copies Rust-owned responses into JS-owned ArrayBuffers, frees them with the exact pointer/length pair, and also verifies the schema/contract hash over the same ABI.

On 2026-08-24 macOS arm64 Release, the full path of the generated addNumbers API averaged 2.27µs, p50 2.21µs, and about 439,961 ops/s. This is not just the adapter function timed in isolation; it includes the codec, FFI, Rust invoke, and response ownership transfer after lazy bootstrap. The reproduction code is bun-performance.ts.
