Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@sayeef-mahmud/verb-spinner

A loading spinner paired with a randomly picked verb from Claude Code's own list of 185 status words (Marinating, Noodling, Combobulating, Flibbertigibbeting, ...), extracted directly from the claude.exe v2.1.273 binary. No CSS framework required — styles are injected inline at runtime.

Top: default braille spinner. Bottom: same component with a custom spinner={<Icon icon="svg-spinners:180-ring" />} from @iconify/react. Both flip between black and white text automatically via the background prop as the page behind them changes.

Usage

import { ClaudeLoader } from "@sayeef-mahmud/verb-spinner";

function App() {
  return <ClaudeLoader />;
}

Picks one random verb on mount and holds it (matching how Claude Code itself behaves — one verb per turn, not a cycling ticker).

Props

| Prop | Type | Default | Description | | ---------- | ------------------- | ---------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------- | | verb | ClaudeSpinnerVerb | random | Pin a specific verb instead of picking randomly. | | cycleMs | number | none (hold) | Re-pick a random verb every N ms. | | size | number | 16 | Font size in px for spinner + text. | | color | string | "currentColor" | CSS color. Overrides auto-contrast from background. | | background | string (hex) | - | Surface color behind the loader. When set (and color isn't), text auto-picks black or white for contrast. | | suffix | string | "…" | Appended after the verb. | | spinner | React.ReactNode | - | Replace the default braille spinner with your own element (e.g. an animated SVG or icon). | | className | string | - | Extra class on the wrapping <span>. | | style | React.CSSProperties | - | Extra inline styles on the wrapping <span>. |

Cycling example

<ClaudeLoader cycleMs={2000} size={20} color="#d97757" />

Auto-contrast against a changing background

<ClaudeLoader background={bgColor} />

Custom spinner

<ClaudeLoader spinner={<MySpinnerIcon />} />

The spinner prop fully replaces the default braille animation — animate your own element however you like (CSS keyframes, a GIF, an SVG loop, etc).

You can also use the auto-contrast helper directly:

import { contrastColor } from "@sayeef-mahmud/verb-spinner";

contrastColor("#0d7a6c"); // "#ffffff"

Using just the verb list

import { CLAUDE_SPINNER_VERBS, randomClaudeVerb } from "@sayeef-mahmud/verb-spinner";

Build

npm install
npm run build
