Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

RAgents host: server, engine, plugins and tools without a source checkout

Readme

@schlenkr/ragents

RAgents is a web workshop for AI agents: you chat with a coordinator that starts further agents and equips actors with TypeScript functions and their own views. Everything that happens goes into an append-only journal, and the state of a run is always rebuilt by replaying that journal.

This package is the RAgents host - server, engine, plugins and the scripts behind the subcommands - so the host runs without a source checkout. Installing it gives you one command, ragents.

Install

npm install -g @schlenkr/ragents

Commands

  • acp [--profile <profile|path>] [--data-dir <folder>] - serve stable Agent Client Protocol v1 over stdio for an editor such as Zed. Each editor chat uses a run bound to its project folder, with streamed replies, tool progress, plans, and history. Logs go to stderr. Profile, host, and token selection match run; RAGENTS_URL can connect to a remote host with this machine registered as the run's workstation.

    ragents acp --profile developer
  • connect <server-url> - fetch the client profile of a RAgents server together with the plugin bundles it names and start the local server with it; the models come over the server's relay. The local host needs the same host API as the server; nothing is built or installed.

    RAGENTS_TOKEN=<token> ragents connect https://ragents.example.com
  • start <profile|path> - start a profile shipped with the package (core, developer, showcase), your own ragents.config.<name>.ts anywhere on disk, or a revision that connect already fetched, without asking the server. The web interface comes finished with the package, the same for every profile; the web halves of the plugins load from their bundles.

    ragents start developer
    ragents start ~/projects/mine/ragents.config.mine.ts
  • provision [<profile>|--workspace] - fetch the tools the plugins of that profile need, such as the language servers; a second call downloads nothing.

    ragents provision developer
  • workspace-client <server-url> [folder ...] - register this machine and its folders as a workspace for a server, so a run on that server works in these folders. Includes the same ripgrep and Windows Bash as the VS Code extension. RAGENTS_USER and RAGENTS_PASSWORD in the environment enable session renewal; RAGENTS_TOKEN supplies an existing or personal token. Terminal or parent closure stops it and its children. Use --detached explicitly for nohup or a service manager; SIGINT/SIGTERM still stop it.

    ragents workspace-client https://ragents.example.com ~/projects/demo
  • plugin build <folder...> - build your own plugin sources into bundles, with type checks against the host API; the result goes to ./dist/plugins/<id>, and a profile names that folder. --out <folder> changes the target, --watch rebuilds on every change.

    ragents plugin build ./acme.tickets
  • run <folder> "<task>" - start the host if none answers, bind a new run to the folder and wait until the turn is finished; the last line is always run: <id>. This host serves no web interface - an agent does not need one; use start for that.

ragents run ~/projects/demo "Fix the type error in src/broken.ts"
  • send <run> "<text>" - continue in the same run and wait the same way.

ragents send 7f3c1e64-9a2b-4d11-8c30-1f5e9a77c001 "Now add a test for it"
  • journal <run> [--tools] - read the history of a run without a server; --tools shows the tool calls instead of the conversation.

    ragents journal 7f3c1e64-9a2b-4d11-8c30-1f5e9a77c001 --tools
  • stop <run> - pause the whole run: the running turns end and nothing starts until send or resume continues it. --turn ends only the running turn of the primary actor, --run is the emergency stop, stop --host stops the remembered host process.

    ragents stop 7f3c1e64-9a2b-4d11-8c30-1f5e9a77c001
  • resume <run> - continue a paused run without a message.

    ragents resume 7f3c1e64-9a2b-4d11-8c30-1f5e9a77c001
  • --version or -v - print the installed version.

Requirements

  • Node 22 (>= 22.19.0). No git, no pnpm, no source checkout; the package carries its finished web interface, the same for every profile, and loads the web halves of plugins from their bundles.
  • dotnet (.NET 10 SDK) for the C# diagnostics through Roslyn and the F# diagnostics through FSAC; without it TypeScript diagnostics still work.
  • Model access: either OPENROUTER_API_KEY in the environment, or ragents connect <server-url> against a RAgents server that relays the models.
