Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@scumble/native

The native Lynx library behind scumble: the intrinsic <scumble-*> elements, the skityrt FlatBuffer schema, the NAPI renderer addon, and one cross-platform C++ renderer (ScumbleRenderer) driving the skity GPU backend — Android (OpenGL ES / Vulkan) and iOS (Metal).

Installation

scumble ships as three peer-linked packages:

pnpm add @scumble/react @scumble/graphics @scumble/native

This package is discovered through lynx.lib.json by Lynx autolink — the host app needs the standard Lynx autolink setup (Ruby gem cocoapods-lynx-library on iOS, org.lynxsdk.lynx.* Gradle plugins on Android). See the installation guide for the full requirements and the scumble-specific Gradle/CocoaPods bits.

Documentation for the whole library lives at https://sanjiguan111.github.io/scumble.

Development

npm install
npm run codegen

Generated JS specs are written to generated/.

NAPI native module typings live in types/napi-native-module.d.ts and use a minimal shared C++ N-API callback stub. Selected native files are written to android/, ios/, harmony/, and shared/. The package is discovered by Lynx through lynx.lib.json.

NAPI Native Module

Codegen creates shared/nativeModule/ScumbleModule.cc once and preserves it on later runs. After changing the typings, rerun codegen to refresh generated facade and registration files, then manually keep the user-owned C++ callbacks and exports in sync. If the module class is renamed, also rename or remove the old C++ file and update the addon name in lynx.lib.json; codegen does not delete stale user-owned files or rewrite the manifest.

On Android and iOS, import the package root in BTS to install the generated NativeModules.ScumbleModule shim. The generated TypeScript shim is only for the selected mobile runtimes; Lynxtron does not import it.

Android source builds resolve org.lynxsdk.lynx:primjs using the Gradle property lynx.primjs.version, defaulting to 4.+. Set the property from the host root build when the App needs to pin the same PrimJS runtime version used by other Lynx dependencies.
