Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@se-oss/safe-get

v1.0.0

Published

Lightweight, secure, and type-safe nested property retriever supporting bracket notation and function context binding.

Readme

@se-oss/safe-get is a lightweight, secure, and type-safe nested property retriever supporting bracket notation and automatic function context binding.

📦 Installation

npm install @se-oss/safe-get

pnpm

pnpm add @se-oss/safe-get

yarn

yarn add @se-oss/safe-get

📖 Usage

Basic Usage

Retrieve nested properties using standard dot-notation path.

import { safeGet } from '@se-oss/safe-get';

const obj = { a: { b: { c: 'hello' } } };
const value = safeGet(obj, 'a.b.c'); // 'hello'

Array Bracket Notation

Supports both array bracket notation and standard index dot notation.

const obj = { users: [{ name: 'Alice' }, { name: 'Bob' }] };

safeGet(obj, 'users[0].name'); // 'Alice'
safeGet(obj, 'users.1.name'); // 'Bob'

Fallback Default Value

Easily provide a fallback default value if the path resolves to undefined.

const obj = { a: { b: 1 } };

safeGet(obj, 'a.c', 'fallback'); // 'fallback'

Secure Prototype Protection

Guaranteed defense against prototype pollution by blacklisting sensitive keys like __proto__, constructor, and prototype.

const obj = {};

safeGet(obj, '__proto__.polluted'); // undefined

Function Context Binding

Automatically binds the parent object's context when resolving and invoking nested functions.

const obj = {
  user: {
    firstName: 'John',
    lastName: 'Doe',
    getFullName() {
      return `${this.firstName} ${this.lastName}`;
    },
  },
};

safeGet(obj, 'user.getFullName'); // 'John Doe'

Pure TypeScript Type Safety

Strong type inference for objects and paths, resolving types perfectly.

const obj = { user: { age: 25 } };

// TypeScript infers 'age' as number type automatically!
const age = safeGet(obj, 'user.age');
