Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

v0.1.0

Published

Remix loader and action auth helpers, cookie session storage, and RBAC guards for Serafort.

Readme

@serafort/remix

Enterprise IAM & B2B Authentication adapter for Remix applications.

Features

  • 🍪 Cookie Session Storage: Secure, signed HTTP-only cookie session handling with maxAge and domain options.
  • 🛡️ Route Guards & Wildcard RBAC: Protect loaders and actions with tenant isolation, roles, and granular wildcard permissions (e.g. org:*).
  • ⚡ Dual Token Extraction: Automatically supports both HTTP-only session cookies and Authorization: Bearer <token> headers (ideal for mobile/API clients).
  • 🧩 Higher-Order Functions: authenticatedLoader and authenticatedAction inject typed user, token, and session into your Remix handlers.
  • 🔀 Smart Redirection: Redirects unauthenticated users to /login?returnTo=... or returns JSON 401/403 for API endpoints.

Installation

npm install @serafort/remix @serafort/core

Quick Start

1. Initialize Client

// app/services/auth.server.ts
import { createSerafortRemix } from '@serafort/remix';

export const serafort = createSerafortRemix({
  endpoint: process.env.SERAFORT_ENDPOINT || 'https://api.serafort.com',
  cookieSecret: process.env.SESSION_SECRET!,
  loginUrl: '/login',
});

export const {
  requireAuth,
  getAuthSession,
  authenticatedLoader,
  authenticatedAction,
  createSessionResponse,
  destroySessionResponse,
} = serafort;

2. Protect Loaders

// app/routes/dashboard.tsx
import { LoaderFunctionArgs } from '@remix-run/node';
import { authenticatedLoader } from '~/services/auth.server';

export const loader = authenticatedLoader(
  async ({ user }) => {
    return { user };
  },
  {
    roles: ['admin'],
    permissions: ['org:*'],
  }
);

3. Handle Login & Logout

// app/routes/login.tsx
import { ActionFunctionArgs } from '@remix-run/node';
import { createSessionResponse } from '~/services/auth.server';

export const action = async ({ request }: ActionFunctionArgs) => {
  const formData = await request.formData();
  const token = formData.get('token') as string;

  return createSessionResponse(token, '/dashboard');
};

Contributing

This repo runs pnpm run type-check, pnpm run test, and pnpm run build in CI (.github/workflows/ci.yml) on every push to main and on every pull request.

A pre-commit hook also runs pnpm run type-check locally before each commit, via one of two mechanisms:

  • Husky (default): running pnpm install triggers the prepare script, which installs the hook in .husky/pre-commit automatically. No extra setup needed.

  • Portable fallback: if you don't run pnpm install (or opt out of Husky), enable the equivalent hook at .githooks/pre-commit with:

    git config core.hooksPath .githooks

Both hooks run the same check, so pick whichever fits your workflow.
