Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Why Udemy Video Downloader

Udemy does not provide a built-in download option for desktop browsers. The mobile app has an offline mode, but it is restrictive and time-limited. You cannot right-click and save lecture videos because they use streaming delivery, and generic download tools fail because they cannot authenticate with Udemy. This extension connects directly to Udemy using your existing login session, detects lectures automatically, and downloads them as MP4 files you can keep.

Key features

  • Direct integration with Udemy for reliable video detection from your enrolled courses
  • Bulk course download — view all lectures, select with checkboxes, and download them all at once
  • In-page download button built right into the Udemy video player controls
  • Automatic best-quality selection up to 4K (2160p, 1080p, 720p, 480p)
  • Download progress tracking with real-time status
  • Download history with search, filter, sort, and export
  • Configurable settings for quality preferences, file naming, and download folder
  • Clear notifications when content is DRM-protected and cannot be downloaded
  • Works on Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Firefox, Whale, and Yandex

How it works

  1. Install — Add Video Downloader for Udemy to your browser.
  2. Log in to Udemy — Sign in to your Udemy account in the browser so the extension can access your enrolled courses.
  3. Open a lecture — Navigate to any lecture in a course you are enrolled in.
  4. Download — Click the download button on the player, use the extension popup, or select multiple lectures for bulk download. Videos save as MP4.

Supported formats

All videos are saved as standard MP4 files that play on any device or media player. The extension automatically selects the best available quality from Udemy's servers — up to 4K resolution. Available quality levels depend on what Udemy provides for each lecture.

Who it's for

  • Udemy students who want to save course videos for offline study
  • Learners with limited or unreliable internet who prefer downloading over streaming
  • Professionals who need to reference training materials without being connected
  • Non-technical users who want a simple, one-click download solution for their purchased courses

Common use cases

  • Save a Udemy lecture for offline study during travel or commute
  • Download an entire course section before a trip with no internet access
  • Keep course materials available after your access period ends
  • Build a personal library of your purchased training content
  • Reference specific lessons repeatedly without streaming each time

Trial & access

3 free downloads are included after signing in with your email — no credit card required. Purchase a license for unlimited downloads at the product page linked above.

Notes (important)

This extension is intended for downloading content from courses you are enrolled in. Users are responsible for ensuring they have the right to download content and for respecting Udemy's terms of service and content creators' rights. Quality depends on the source video. DRM-protected courses cannot be downloaded. An internet connection is required for the initial download.
