Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Package source repositories:

Install

npm install @shapeshift-labs/frontier-history

Example

import {
  compileHistoryTimeline,
  createHistoryTimeline,
  explainFieldChange,
  planHistoryUndo
} from '@shapeshift-labs/frontier-history';

const history = compileHistoryTimeline(createHistoryTimeline({
  id: 'app.history',
  records: [{
    id: 'action:todos.complete',
    kind: 'action',
    at: 10,
    action: 'action.todos.complete',
    actor: 'user:u1',
    policy: 'policy.todo.write',
    traceId: 'trace:1',
    writes: ['/entities/todos/t1/done'],
    patches: [{ op: 'set', path: '/entities/todos/t1/done', value: true, oldValue: false }]
  }]
}));

const why = explainFieldChange(history, {
  path: '/entities/todos/t1/done',
  at: 10,
  includeRelated: true
});

const undo = planHistoryUndo(history, {
  scope: 'path',
  target: '/entities/todos/t1/done',
  at: 10
});

Surface

  • createHistoryTimeline, defineHistoryRecord, compileHistoryTimeline, validateHistoryTimeline, and queryHistoryTimeline normalize temporal evidence records.
  • explainFieldChange answers why a field changed by collecting direct path records plus related action, workflow, policy, effect, trace, actor, agent, test, replay, and proof records.
  • planHistoryUndo describes what undo would mean for a path, action, workflow, policy, effect, actor, agent, test, trace, or record scope.
  • createHistoryWindow and diffHistoryWindows provide replay-window and audit-window comparisons.
  • createHistoryRegistryGraph and createHistoryProvenanceGraph expose temporal evidence as registry/provenance data.
  • encodeHistoryJsonl, decodeHistoryJsonl, redactHistoryValue, and createHistoryProof support inspectable replay bundles and AI-readable proof records.

Temporal Explanation Boundary

@shapeshift-labs/frontier-event-log owns bounded logs, checkpoints, cursors, and temporal replay primitives. @shapeshift-labs/frontier-crdt owns CRDT versions, branches, and undo. @shapeshift-labs/frontier-trace owns spans and causal links. @shapeshift-labs/frontier-test owns test/spec evidence. @shapeshift-labs/frontier-inspect owns cross-package inspection bundles.

@shapeshift-labs/frontier-history sits above them as a structural explanation layer. It records that a field change was caused by an action, allowed by a policy, produced by an effect, observed in a trace, initiated by a user/agent, active in a workflow step, and proven by a test or replay without importing those packages.

Benchmarks

Run the package-local benchmark:

npm run bench

Run the comparison/control benchmark:

npm run bench:competitors

The package benchmark writes benchmarks/results/frontier-history-package-bench-latest.json when run from the monorepo. The competitor/control benchmark writes benchmarks/results/frontier-history-competitors-latest.json. Frontier-only package measurements cover timeline creation, compilation, validation, path/action queries, explanation, undo planning, windows, registry/provenance graphs, JSONL, and proof hashing.
