Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

MCP server exposing @shashimadushan/docx-editor-agent's tool registry over stdio, so Claude Desktop/Claude Code/any MCP client can read and edit .docx files directly.

@shashimadushan/docx-editor-mcp

An MCP server that exposes @shashimadushan/docx-editor-agent's tool registry over stdio, so Claude Desktop, Claude Code, or any MCP client can open, read, and edit .docx files on disk directly — the same high-fidelity OOXML round-trip the browser editor uses, running headless in Node.

How it works

  • A headless DocxEditor is mounted against a happy-dom window, so the browser-targeted editor/agent code runs unmodified in a plain Node process.
  • Every tool from createDefaultToolRegistry() in @shashimadushan/docx-editor-agent is re-exported as an MCP tool (its JSON-Schema parameters maps straight onto MCP's Tool.inputSchema).
  • Two extra tools manage the file:
    • open_document — { path } — open a .docx from an absolute path.
    • save_document — { path? } — save the open document (defaults to the path it was opened from; pass path for "Save As").
  • One document is open per server process at a time — matching how an MCP client works through one file per conversation.

Install

npm install -g @shashimadushan/docx-editor-mcp
# or run it without installing:
npx @shashimadushan/docx-editor-mcp

@shashimadushan/docx-editor-editor (>=0.6.0) and @shashimadushan/docx-editor-agent (>=0.4.0) are peer dependencies.

Use with Claude Desktop

Add to claude_desktop_config.json:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "docx-editor": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@shashimadushan/docx-editor-mcp"]
    }
  }
}

Then ask Claude to open_document with an absolute path and edit away; call save_document to write it back.

Use with Claude Code

claude mcp add docx-editor -- npx -y @shashimadushan/docx-editor-mcp

Programmatic use

import { createServer, runStdioServer } from '@shashimadushan/docx-editor-mcp';

// Run over stdio (what the `docx-editor-mcp` bin does):
await runStdioServer();

// …or wire the Server to your own transport:
const server = createServer();

DocumentSession, toMcpToolDefs, listAgentTools, and callAgentTool are also exported for embedding the tool bridge elsewhere.
