Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

v0.3.5

Happy Terminal, the embeddable terminal client for Happy Agent.

Readme

Happy Terminal

Happy Terminal is the terminal interface for Happy Agent. The published @slopus/happy-terminal package can be installed as a command, embedded directly in another Node.js application, used by the happy CLI, or hosted by Happy Desktop.

Command line

pnpm add --global @slopus/happy-terminal
happy-terminal

The separate Happy CLI also integrates Happy Terminal and exposes it through happy.

Released installations check for a newer Happy Agent in the background. When one is available, the terminal shows the host command to run, such as happy upgrade or happy-terminal upgrade. The standalone command downloads and verifies the newest Agent release, selects it, and gracefully reloads the daemon onto it. A locally linked 0.0.0 Agent is offered that same update; running it replaces the local Agent with the published release.

Embed in a Node.js application

import { runHappyTerminal, upgradeHappyAgent } from "@slopus/happy-terminal";

if (process.argv[2] === "upgrade") {
    await upgradeHappyAgent();
} else {
    await runHappyTerminal({
        commandName: "my-command",
        cwd: process.cwd(),
    });
}

runHappyTerminal() uses the current process's stdin and stdout, takes over the terminal until the person exits, restores terminal modes, and then resolves. It does not install the CLI's fatal-error handlers and does not exit the host process. Startup failures reject the returned promise. A host can observe non-fatal background failures with onError:

await runHappyTerminal({
    cwd: "/path/to/project",
    onError: (error) => applicationLogger.error(error),
});

Embedded sessions use happy in resume instructions by default. A different host command can be provided with commandName. An embedded host may also provide version to replace the installed Happy Terminal package version in the startup UI.

Run only one inline terminal at a time because each instance owns the process terminal while it is active. Happy Terminal requires Node.js 24 or newer.

The embedding options type is exported as RunHappyTerminalOptions. Happy Agent API types belong to @slopus/happy-agent-client; embedding the TUI does not create a second API contract. The package version helper is available from @slopus/happy-terminal/package-version. Embedding hosts that provide a custom commandName should route that command's upgrade entry point through upgradeHappyAgent() so the suggestion shown by the terminal is actionable.

Happy Agent daemon

Happy Terminal connects to an already-running Happy Agent daemon first. Otherwise it starts the selected binary recorded under ~/.happy/dist/config.json. A published installation downloads the latest matching macOS or Linux release once when nothing is selected yet.
