Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@smartput/rate

v0.2.0

The money kind, rate snapshots, and the live-rate facade.

@smartput/rate

The money kind, rate snapshots, and the live-rate facade.

Money is not in BUILTIN_KINDS and never will be: it needs an injected rate table, so it ships here and the caller registers it. snapshot() builds a dated immutable table; ecb() and custom() are providers; createLiveEngine() wraps fetch, cache, TTL and one shared in-flight request.

A rate without an asOf is a number pretending to be a fact, so every snapshot carries one.

Setup

npm add @smartput/rate

Example

import { money, snapshot, ecb } from "@smartput/rate";
import { parseAmount, symbolOf } from "@smartput/currency";

JSON.stringify(parseAmount("$12.50"))  // "{\"ok\":false,\"code\":\"nan\",\"input\":\"$12.50\"}"
symbolOf("uah")                        // "₴"
money.id                               // "money"

money is a kind whose ratios are read from a rate snapshot rather than fixed, so createLiveEngine is what turns "100 usd in eur" into an answer. ecb is the European Central Bank daily reference feed; snapshot is the offline shape it fills. Nothing here calls the network until you hand it a provider.

Entry points

| Import | Contents | | --- | --- | | @smartput/rate | The package root. | | @smartput/rate/locale/<id> | One language's words for this kind. 17 ship: en, uk, de, fr, es, pt, it, nl, zh, ja, ar, ru, pl, tr, hi, ko, id. |

What it costs

Ceilings, not measurements. bun run check-size bundles each entry with bun build --minify and fails if a row crosses its ceiling or drops more than 30 % below it — a budget that is only an upper bound reports a vanished graph as a triumph.

| Import | Minified | Gzipped | | --- | --- | --- | | rate/locale/en (a vocabulary outside the kind packages) | ≤ 36.1 kB | ≤ 14.2 kB |
