Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Server Http Client

This library provides an advanced http client for nestjs applications.

It designed to be used to communicate with other nestjs applications or any other http services.

It requires to have Axios installed, and it relies on it

Features

  • It has built-in configurable retry mechanism (linear, static or exponential)

  • It has built-in configurable circuit breaker mechanism

  • Circuit breaker using a local memory cache to store state of the circuit

  • Circuit breaker and retry mechanism can be configured per request and can be configured together, but you need to have a clear understanding how system will behave when both are configured

  • This libraries provides InternalProxyHttpExceptionFilter that will convert any exception to InternalProxyHttpException

    This is useful for internal communication between services, so if you call another service, and it returns any error it will be converted to InternalProxyHttpException and you can handle it if you want to, but in most cases if any of your internal service returns an error you should just return it to the client, as is. It simplifies error handling for communication between microservices.

  • It has built-in configurable timeout mechanism, you don't want to hang for 30 seconds waiting for response from the server.

  • It relies on ClsService for auth token and request id propagation between services, so you don't need to worry about it, it will be done automatically for you.

Note:

You quite rarely need to use this library directly, it is used by code generator, to create automatically generated http clients for your apps and libraries.

Installation

yarn add @softkit/server-http-client

Create http client

@Module({

  providers: [
    {
      provide: 'AXIOS',
      useFactory: (cls: ClsService<UserRequestClsStore>) => {
        return createAxiosInstance(cls, {
          url: 'http://localhost:54345',
          timeout: 1000,
          serviceName: 'sample',
        });
      },
      inject: [ClsService],
    },
  ],
  imports: [ClsModule],
})
export class YourAppModule {}

Inject and use

@Controller('sample')
export class SampleController {
  constructor(@Inject('AXIOS') private readonly axios: AxiosInstance) {}
}
