Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@soterai/langchain-middleware

v0.2.0

Published

Soter is a safety layer for AI chatbots, agents, RAG systems, and LLM applications.

Readme

@soterai/langchain-middleware

LangChain integration for Soter — the AI safety layer.

Wrap any LangChain chain with withSoterLangChain to automatically guard both user input and model output against prompt injection, jailbreaks, PII leakage, and unsafe content.

Install

npm install @soterai/langchain-middleware

Requires @soterai/core (peer dependency) and Node.js 18.18+.

Usage

import { SoterClient } from "@soterai/core";
import { withSoterLangChain } from "@soterai/langchain-middleware";

// Create the Soter guard client (implements SoterGuardClient)
const guard = new SoterClient({
  apiKey: process.env.SOTER_API_KEY!, // set SOTER_API_KEY in your .env
});

// Your existing LangChain chain
const chain = /* ... */;

// Wrap it with Soter
const protectedChain = withSoterLangChain(chain, guard);

// Use like a normal chain — Soter guards input + output automatically
const result = await protectedChain.invoke({ input: "Ignore previous instructions..." });
// → throws if blocked, or returns result with safe output

How It Works

  1. Input guardguard.guardInput({ message: input.input }) runs before your chain. If blocked, it throws an error.
  2. Chain runs — only with the safe/redacted input text.
  3. Output guardguard.guardOutput({ aiResponse: result.output }) runs after your chain. If blocked, it throws an error.
  4. Safe result — the guarded output is returned.

API

withSoterLangChain(chain, guard)

| Param | Type | Description | |-------|------|-------------| | chain | { invoke(input: TInput): Promise<TOutput> } | Any LangChain chain (LLMChain, Chain, etc.) with invoke() | | guard | SoterGuardClient | A Soter client with guardInput() and guardOutput() methods |

Returns a wrapped chain with the same invoke() interface.

SoterGuardClient

interface SoterGuardClient {
  guardInput(input: { message: string; metadata?: Record<string, unknown> }): Promise<GuardDecision>;
  guardOutput(input: { aiResponse: string; metadata?: Record<string, unknown> }): Promise<GuardDecision>;
}

Where GuardDecision contains:

  • action: "ALLOW" | "ALLOW_WITH_REDACTION" | "REWRITE" | "BLOCK" | "HUMAN_REVIEW"
  • safeText?: The safe/redacted text
  • redactedText?: The redacted version (if applicable)
  • reason?: Explanation of the decision

TypeScript

import type { SoterGuardClient } from "@soterai/langchain-middleware";

Backward Compatibility

withCyberRakshakLangChain is exported as an alias for existing integrations.
