Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Unofficial TypeScript API wrapper for managing Bose SoundTouch devices.

Readme

SoundRetouch-API

SoundRetouch-API is an unofficial TypeScript library for configuring and managing legacy Bose SoundTouch devices.

After Bose announced the deprecation of the SoundTouch product line and the shutdown of its cloud services, I wanted to experiment with ways to keep these speakers useful. This library provides a clean, developer-friendly wrapper around the documented SoundTouch local API, with built-in support for asynchronous notifications, AVTransport stream playback, and a simple approach to device discovery.

The implementation is based on the official SoundTouch Web API documentation and has been tested and validated with a pair of SoundTouch 10 speakers.

This project is independently developed and is not affiliated with Bose.

Installation

npm i @soundretouch/api

Usage

Below is a basic example demonstrating how to connect to a SoundTouch device and perform common operations.

import { SoundTouchDevice } from '@soundretouch/api'

const device = new SoundTouchDevice('192.168.1.67')

const info = await device.info()
const nowPlaying = await device.nowPlaying()
const volume = await device.volume()

await device.setVolume(25)
await device.keyPressAndRelease('PLAY')

WebSocket Asynchronous Notifications

The library supports real-time notifications over WebSocket for events such as track changes and volume updates.

import { SoundTouchDevice } from '@soundretouch/api'

const device = new SoundTouchDevice('192.168.1.67')

device.onNowPlayingUpdated((nowPlaying) => {
    console.log('Now playing changed:', nowPlaying)
})

device.onVolumeUpdated((volume) => {
    console.log('Volume changed:', volume)
})

Discovery

Devices on the local network can be discovered automatically using the built-in discovery service.

import { SoundTouchDiscovery } from '@soundretouch/api'

const handle = SoundTouchDiscovery.start(async (device) => {
    console.log('Found device at', device.host)
    console.log(await device.info())
})

// Stop after 2 minutes
setTimeout(() => handle.stop(), 120000)

Proxy Configuration (Dev)

If you need to route HTTP and WebSocket calls through a development proxy, pass proxy URLs to the device options.

import { SoundTouchDevice } from '@soundretouch/api'

const device = new SoundTouchDevice('192.168.1.67', {
    http: { proxyUrl: 'http://localhost:6767/proxy?url=' },
    ws: { proxyUrl: 'ws://localhost:6767/proxy?url=' },
})

Implemented Endpoints

The following SoundTouch API endpoints are currently implemented:

  • /info
  • /audiodspcontrols
  • /audioproductlevelcontrols
  • /audioproducttonecontrols
  • /AVTransport/Control
  • /bass
  • /bassCapabilities
  • /capabilities
  • /getZone
  • /key
  • /name
  • /now_playing
  • /presets
  • /select
  • /sources
  • /setZone
  • /removeZoneSlave
  • /trackInfo
  • /volume

Debug Logging

Debug logging can be enabled using the DEBUG environment variable. Logging can be configured globally or scoped to specific subsystems.

DEBUG=soundretouch:*
DEBUG=soundretouch:discovery
