Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@sovereign-workspace/design-tokens

v0.1.1

Published

Sovereign Workspace design tokens (light + dark CSS custom properties) so third-party apps match the workspace look.

Readme

@sovereign-workspace/design-tokens

The Sovereign Workspace design tokens — the CSS custom properties (colours, surfaces, text, borders, accents …) for light and dark mode. Import these and style your external app with var(--token) values, and it will match the workspace and follow its light/dark switch.

Full guide: https://sovereignworkspace.org/developers

Install

npm install @sovereign-workspace/design-tokens

Use

Import the stylesheet once (from your app entry, or a CSS @import):

import '@sovereign-workspace/design-tokens';
@import '@sovereign-workspace/design-tokens/tokens.css';

Then style everything with the tokens — never hard-code a colour:

.card {
  background: var(--surface-primary);
  color: var(--text-primary);
  border: 1px solid var(--border-primary);
}
.card button {
  background: var(--accent);
  color: var(--selected-text);
}

Follow the workspace theme

The tokens ship two palettes: the default (:root) is light; setting data-theme="dark" on <html> switches to dark. Pair this with @sovereign-workspace/sdk-iframe so your app tracks the workspace:

import { createWorkspaceSdk } from '@sovereign-workspace/sdk-iframe';
import '@sovereign-workspace/design-tokens';

const sdk = createWorkspaceSdk();

function apply(theme) {
  document.documentElement.setAttribute('data-theme', theme === 'dark' ? 'dark' : '');
}

apply(await sdk.system.getTheme());          // match on load
sdk.system.onThemeChange(apply);             // …and on every switch

That's the whole integration: one import, getTheme on load, onThemeChange after. Your app now light/dark-matches the workspace automatically.

Token catalogue

Surfaces (--surface-primary/secondary/tertiary/overlay), text (--text-primary/secondary/muted), borders (--border-primary/subtle/window), interactive (--accent, --button-bg, --button-text, --input-bg, --input-border), banners, semantic colours (--color-error/success/info/ warning/link), and --selected-text for light text on coloured backgrounds. See the imported file for the full list — it is generated from the workspace's own stylesheet, so it is always the real, current set.
