Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Every dependency. Code to cosmos. STARCHART charts three layers: your code (files, symbols, routes, screens, packages, flags, events, i18n, tests), your canonical facts (prices, names, product ids, feature lists) and the world that depends on them (website copy, OG images, App Store listing and screenshots, Stripe prices, promo reels, emails). Change anything on any layer and it tells you what else is now wrong, explains why, fixes what it can, and turns the rest into a checklist.

Install

npm i -D @space-pirate-zero/starchart

Node 20 or newer. Binaries: starchart (alias sc) and starchart-mcp. Use the scoped name with npx (npx @space-pirate-zero/starchart …); the unscoped starchart package on npm is unrelated.

Quick start

npx @space-pirate-zero/starchart init --discover
npx @space-pirate-zero/starchart lock
npx @space-pirate-zero/starchart plan
npx @space-pirate-zero/starchart apply --dry-run

init --discover detects your code scopes and proposes facts and bridges in .starchart/proposals/discovered.yaml. Review it, move it into .starchart/, then lock pins every artifact to today's facts and code.

What's inside

  • Cross-layer impact with a "why" path for every item: impact, impact --diff <base>, plan, why
  • Drift as a build failure: starchart.lock + check
  • Plan / apply / revert through adapters (fs, url, Stripe, App Store Connect; external writes are opt-in), with journals
  • Rules: invariants in YAML plus packs for core, App Store, SEO and privacy drift (SDKs in code vs. PrivacyInfo.xcprivacy and privacy labels)
  • Facts as code: TS / Swift / Kotlin codegen; schema.org JSON-LD for SEO
  • Orphans, Reality Score badge, change-cost advisor, time machine
  • Star chart viewer (graph, serve) and the Reality X-Ray browser extension
  • Agent-native: MCP server (starchart mcp) and a Claude Code PostToolUse hook (starchart hook claude)
  • Plugins: your own adapters and rule packs via plugins: in config

Library

import { buildProject, planFromLock, formatPlanText } from "@space-pirate-zero/starchart";

const project = await buildProject(process.cwd());
console.log(formatPlanText(planFromLock(project)));
