Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

AudioBookRequest MCP Server

A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for AudioBookRequest — the lightweight audiobook request management tool for Plex/Audiobookshelf/Jellyfin.

This MCP server exposes AudioBookRequest's REST API as MCP tools, allowing AI assistants to search for audiobooks, manage requests, track downloads, get recommendations, and administer your audiobook library.

Features

  • 🔍 Search audiobooks via the Audible API
  • 📋 Manage audiobook requests (create, list, cancel)
  • ⬇️ Track and trigger downloads via Prowlarr
  • 👥 User management (create, update, delete users)
  • 📚 Manual request handling for non-Audible books
  • 🏥 Health checks
  • ⚙️ Indexer configuration management
  • 📊 Recommendations (user-based, popular, recent, categories, authors, narrators)
  • 🔔 Notification configuration management
  • ⬇️ Download quality settings management
  • 🎧 Audiobookshelf integration settings
  • 🔗 Prowlarr integration settings
  • 🔐 Security settings (OIDC, login type)

Prerequisites

  • Node.js 20+
  • An AudioBookRequest instance with API access
  • An API key from your AudioBookRequest instance (Settings > API Keys)

Installation

# Clone or download this repository
cd audiobookrequest-mcp

# Install dependencies
npm install

Configuration

Set the following environment variables:

| Variable | Required | Description | |----------|----------|-------------| | ABR_BASE_URL | Yes | Your AudioBookRequest instance URL (e.g., http://localhost:8000) | | ABR_API_KEY | Yes | Your AudioBookRequest API key | | TOOL_PREFIX | No | Optional prefix for all tool names (e.g., audiobook → audiobook_search_books) |

Example:

export ABR_BASE_URL=http://192.168.1.159:8765
export ABR_API_KEY=your-api-key-here

Running the Server

Via npx (recommended)

ABR_BASE_URL=http://your-instance:8000 ABR_API_KEY=your-api-key npx @spaghetgaming/audiobookrequest-mcp

This runs the latest published version without installing anything locally.

Local development

# Clone or download this repository
cd audiobookrequest-mcp

# Install dependencies
npm install

# Run locally
export ABR_BASE_URL=http://your-instance:8000
export ABR_API_KEY=your-api-key
npm start

Validate API Endpoints

To verify that all MCP tools match the AudioBookRequest OpenAPI spec:

ABR_BASE_URL=http://your-instance:8000 npm run validate:endpoints

This fetches the spec from ABR_BASE_URL, compares every registered tool's schema with it, then invokes each tool against an in-process recording stub and validates the real HTTP method, path, query parameters, body fields, enums and required fields. It never writes to your instance.

npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector npx @spaghetgaming/audiobookrequest-mcp

This opens a web UI where you can test all tools interactively.
