Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@ssroute/data-eurostat

Eurostat SeaRoute / MARNET maritime routing graph data (JSON tuples) for JavaScript/TypeScript.

Works in both browser and Node.js - data is embedded at build time, no file I/O required.

For a plain-language explanation of the dataset (ELI5), data structure, and how it can be used with Dijkstra/A* for visualizations (not navigation), see the main repository README:

  • https://github.com/ssroute/data-eurostat#explain-it-like-im-5

Installation

npm install @ssroute/data-eurostat

Usage

TypeScript / ES Modules

import { getNodes, getEdges, getMeta, type Node, type Edge, type Meta } from '@ssroute/data-eurostat';

const nodes: Node[] = getNodes();
const edges: Edge[] = getEdges();
const meta: Meta = getMeta();

console.log(`Loaded ${nodes.length} nodes`);
console.log(`Loaded ${edges.length} edges`);
console.log(`Distance units: ${meta.distance_units}`);

JavaScript / CommonJS

const { getNodes, getEdges, getMeta } = require('@ssroute/data-eurostat');

const nodes = getNodes();
const edges = getEdges();
const meta = getMeta();

Advanced: Direct Data Access

For custom bundling or tree-shaking:

import { nodesData, edgesData, metaData } from '@ssroute/data-eurostat';

// Access raw data arrays directly
const firstNode = nodesData[0];

API

  • getNodes(): Node[] - Returns an array of node tuples [id, lon, lat]
  • getEdges(): Edge[] - Returns an array of edge tuples [from, to, lengthNm]
  • getMeta(): Meta - Returns the metadata object (schema, units, etc.)
  • nodesData, edgesData, metaData - Raw data exports for advanced use cases

Types

type Node = [id: number, lon: number, lat: number];
type Edge = [from: number, to: number, lengthNm: number];
type Meta = {
  distance_units: "nm";
  node_schema: ["id", "lon", "lat"];
  edge_schema: ["from", "to", "length_nm"];
};

Data

  • Nodes: tuples [id, lon, lat]
  • Edges: tuples [from, to, lengthNm] (directed, length in nautical miles)
  • Meta: schema + units
