Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@stackcraft-app/create

Create a ready-to-code project with the dependencies you pick, already wired together.

npm create @stackcraft-app@latest
# or
npx @stackcraft-app/create@latest
pnpm create @stackcraft-app
yarn create @stackcraft-app

The CLI asks for:

  1. the project name;
  2. the framework: Next.js, Vite + React or SvelteKit;
  3. the architecture: Simple, Feature-based or Clean Architecture;
  4. the dependencies: Tailwind CSS, shadcn/ui, bref-ui, Prisma, Drizzle, Auth.js, Better Auth, Zod, Zustand, Vitest, ESLint, Prettier, Docker… Only the ones that work with your framework are listed, and requirements are added for you;
  5. the colors: framework defaults or a theme with light and dark mode;
  6. whether to install the dependencies;
  7. whether to publish the project to GitHub, as a public or private repository;
  8. once it is on GitHub, whether to deploy it on Vercel.

Every module adds its packages, config files, scripts, environment variables and a section in the generated README.

Publishing to GitHub

The project always gets a local git repository with a first commit. To publish it, the CLI uses the GitHub CLI: install it and run gh auth login once. StackCraft never asks for or stores a GitHub token.

Deploying to Vercel

After publishing to GitHub, the CLI can open Vercel's import page for the new repository: pick your team and click Deploy, and Vercel redeploys on every push. It first lists the environment variables to set in Vercel (database URL, auth secrets…). A database needs a hosted PostgreSQL (Neon, Supabase…), since the docker-compose one only runs locally. SvelteKit projects with Docker use adapter-node, which Vercel cannot run, so the CLI does not offer it for them.

Options

Every question can be answered with an option, for scripts and CI:

npx @stackcraft-app/create@latest my-app --framework sveltekit --arch feature --modules tailwind,vitest --theme neutral --github private -y

| Option | Values | | --- | --- | | --framework | nextjs, vite-react, sveltekit | | --arch | simple, feature, clean | | --modules | comma-separated module ids, e.g. tailwind,shadcn,prisma | | --theme | a preset id, or none | | --pm | npm, pnpm, yarn, bun (default: the one running the command) | | --description | project description | | --github | public, private, no | | --vercel | deploy on Vercel after publishing to GitHub (--no-vercel to skip) | | --no-install | skip the dependency install | | -y, --yes | default answer to every question not given as an option |

Run npx @stackcraft-app/create@latest --help for the full list.

The same generator runs in the browser, with a file explorer and shareable links: see the StackCraft repository.
