Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Jfrog Artifactory Plugin for Backstage by StageCentral

Welcome to the Artifactory Backend plugin for Backstage!

The purpose of this plugin is to bring software artifacts forward - where developers can see them. You can now easily connect your software components and services to their binary artifacts and browse the relevant artifacts directly from your Bacsktage IDP.

Important - the Frontend Plugin

This plugin was originally created to provide Jfrog API connection for the Artifactory plugin for Backstage But it exposes APIs that can be used by any other Backstage plugin.

Installation

Yarn: yarn add @stagecentral/plugin-artifactory-backend

Npm: npm -i @stagecentral/plugin-artifactory-backend

Configuration

In your app-config.yaml (or wherever you inject Backstage config from):

artifactory:
    # Note: this is the URL to Jfrog platform. The plugin adds `/artifactory` to this path.
    url: https://myorg.jfrog.io
    # The plugin currently uses simple user/passwd auth.
    # API key support will be added later
    user: ${ARTIFACTORY_USER}
    password: ${ARTIFACTORY_PASSWORD}

Integration

Add to backend:

Create packages/backend/src/plugins/artifactory.ts:

import { createRouter } from '@stagecentral/plugin-artifactory-backend';
import { Router } from 'express';
import { PluginEnvironment } from '../types';
import { CatalogClient } from '@backstage/catalog-client';

export default async function createPlugin(
  env: PluginEnvironment,
): Promise<Router> {
  const catalogApi = new CatalogClient({ discoveryApi: env.discovery });
  return await createRouter({
    logger: env.logger,
    config: env.config,
    catalogApi,
  }
  );
}

In packages/backend/src/index.ts:

import artifactory from './plugins/artifactory'
...

/* next to other createEnv calls */
const artifactoryEnv = useHotMemoize(module, () => createEnv('artifactory'));

/* next to other apiRouter.use calls */
apiRouter.use('/artifactory', await artifactory(artifactoryEnv));
