Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

v0.1.1

Published

Stagewright for Playwright Test: a walkthrough fixture that records narrated-walkthrough artifacts from existing tests, and a reporter that uploads them as local runs.

Readme

@stagewright-ai/playwright

Turn your existing Playwright tests into narrated product walkthroughs with Stagewright. A fixture records them, and a reporter uploads them.

npm install -D @stagewright-ai/playwright

Fixture

// tests/team.spec.ts
import { test, expect } from "@stagewright-ai/playwright";

test("invite a teammate @walkthrough", async ({ page, walkthrough }) => {
  await walkthrough.step("Open the team settings", async () => {
    await page.goto("/settings/team");
    await expect(page.getByRole("heading", { name: "Team" })).toBeVisible();
  });
  await walkthrough.step("Send an invite", async () => {
    await page.getByLabel("Email").fill("[email protected]");
    await page.getByRole("button", { name: "Invite" }).click();
  });
});

Normal runs are unchanged: walkthrough.step is test.step. With STAGEWRIGHT=1 the fixture draws a cursor, records video, paces actions so they're watchable, and writes a timeline and a screenshot per step under the test's output folder. The test timeout is multiplied by 3.

Reporter

// playwright.config.ts
import { defineConfig } from "@playwright/test";
import type { StagewrightOptions } from "@stagewright-ai/playwright";

export default defineConfig<StagewrightOptions>({
  use: { baseURL: "http://localhost:3000", stagewright: { actionDelayMs: 600 } },
  reporter: [["list"], ["@stagewright-ai/playwright/reporter", { product: "my-app" }]],
});
STAGEWRIGHT=1 STAGEWRIGHT_API_KEY=ak_... npx playwright test --grep @walkthrough

The reporter does nothing unless STAGEWRIGHT=1. It uploads every recorded test as a run, and syncs tests tagged @walkthrough as walkthroughs. Options: apiUrl, apiKey (defaults to STAGEWRIGHT_API_URL / STAGEWRIGHT_API_KEY, then the stagewright login credentials), product (defaults to STAGEWRIGHT_PRODUCT), enabled.

Pacing options (under use.stagewright): actionDelayMs (400), settleMs (700), typingDelayMs (45), typeFills (true), maxTypedLength (60), glide (true), glideTimeoutMs (2000), timeoutMultiplier (3).

Needs @playwright/test 1.50 or newer and Node.js 22.18 or newer.
