Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Introduction

Welcome to Stella Source Design System, the cohesive set of guidelines, components, and resources that empower our teams to create consistent, accessible, and scalable digital experiences. This design system serves as the foundation for all of our products, providing a shared language and unified approach to design and development.

The Stella Source Design System is crafted to support our team in delivering high-quality user experiences, from the smallest interactions to the most complex workflows. Whether you're designing a feature, building a UI, or developing a front-end component, this system provides the tools, principles, and assets you need to be efficient and effective.

Our Mission

The mission of the Stella Source Design System is to:

  • Create Consistency: By providing a single source of truth for design patterns, UI components, and accessibility standards, we ensure a cohesive experience across all our products.
  • Increase Efficiency: By reusing established patterns and components, we save time, reduce duplication, and empower teams to focus on innovation.
  • Promote Accessibility: We believe that great design should be accessible to all users. Our system is built with inclusivity in mind, following WCAG standards and best practices.
  • Foster Collaboration: Our design system is the bridge between designers, developers, and product teams. It encourages cross-functional collaboration and simplifies communication.

Core Values

Our design system is rooted in the values that drive everything we do as an organization:

  1. User-Centered: Every component, interaction, and decision is made with the user in mind, ensuring the best possible experience.
  2. Scalability: We design our components and patterns to scale across different teams, products, and platforms without losing integrity.
  3. Flexibility: While consistency is key, we understand that flexibility is also important. Our system allows teams to customize elements where needed to meet specific project needs.
  4. Simplicity: We strive to keep things simple. Our goal is to make complex tasks easy to execute, whether you're using a component or understanding a guideline.
  5. Sustainability: Our design system evolves over time, driven by feedback from users and contributors, ensuring it remains useful and up-to-date as our products and needs grow.

Key Components

  • Design Tokens: Color, typography, spacing, and other foundational styles are defined in our design tokens. These values are shared across both design and code to ensure consistency.
  • UI Components: A library of reusable, accessible components such as buttons, forms, and navigation elements that can be customized and deployed across products.
  • Patterns: Predefined solutions to common design challenges, such as form validation, data tables, and notifications.
  • Resources: Documentation, assets, and tools to help teams implement the design system effectively.
  • Responsiveness: With tablet in mind, provides styles to make all of our components responsive from Web to Tablet.

Who Can Use the Design System?

This design system is primarily intended for:

  • Designers: Use the system as the blueprint for creating new user interfaces, ensuring consistency and accessibility.
  • Developers: Leverage the system’s UI components, design tokens, and front-end code to accelerate development and ensure code quality.
