Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

stix-rust — TypeScript binding (WebAssembly)

Portable WebAssembly bindings for the stix-rust toolkit — runs in Node and the browser.

  • Package: @stix-rust/wasm
  • Surface: identical to @stix-rust/node — typed handles (Engine, Pattern, Bundle, MatchResult); native JS objects; StixError hierarchy.

Install

npm install @stix-rust/wasm

Build & test (from source) (Node)

cd bindings/typescript-wasm
npm install
npm run build # wasm (--target nodejs) + TypeScript wrapper -> dist/
npm test # vitest (in Node)

Browser build

npm run build:web  # wasm-pack --target web -> pkg-web/

In the browser, initialize the module before use (per wasm-pack's web target), then use the same Engine/Pattern/Bundle/MatchResult API.

Usage (Node)

import { Engine } from "@stix-rust/wasm";

const engine = new Engine();
const pattern = engine.parsePattern("[ipv4-addr:value = '198.51.100.5']");
console.log(pattern.ast); // parsed AST as a plain JS object
console.log(pattern.ir); // lowered IR (schema_version, blocks, main) as a plain JS object
console.log(pattern.irListing); // human-readable listing of the IR blocks
console.log(pattern.canonical); // canonical (re-rendered, normalized) pattern text

const bundle = engine.parseBundle(json);
const result = engine.matchBundle(pattern, bundle);
console.log(result.matched, result.observations);

engine.registerType("x-acme-widget", (obj) => ({
  ...obj,
  risk_band: obj.risk_score > 80 ? "high" : "low",
}));

Errors are StixError subclasses: ParseError, ModelError, MatchError, ValidationError.

Playground

playground/ is a static page that parses a pattern in the browser and shows its AST, IR listing, IR JSON, IR graph, and canonical text. It is published at /playground/ on the project's docs site.

To run it locally:

npm run build:playground
python3 -m http.server 8000 -d playground-dist

then open http://localhost:8000. Any static server works; it must serve .wasm as application/wasm.
