Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

🗂️ Stoxy Element Mixin

Stoxy is a state management API equipped with Web Components.

Stoxy allows you to easily handle, persist and update data in your DOM without the weight of a framework.

This is the repository of the mixin to enable creating reactive Web Components with Stoxy

📖 Official docs

Official docs can be found here

🧰 Installation

Install Stoxy into your dependencies

npm install @stoxy/core

Then install this library to enable the mixin support

npm install @stoxy/element-mixin

Usage

Utilizing the Stoxy Element Mixin has a few steps:

  1. Add the mixin to your WebComponent
import { StoxyElement } from "@stoxy/element-mixin";

class MyComponent extends StoxyElement(HTMLElement) {}
  1. Initialize the initial state
import { StoxyElement } from "@stoxy/element-mixin";

class MyComponent extends StoxyElement(HTMLElement) {
  static stoxyProperties = {
    // Stoxy state object key to listen to
    key: "example-data",
    // Initial state values. Only the properties listed here will be observed
    state: {
      username: "World",
      clicks: 0,
      description: "This is a example of Stoxy Element Mixin",
    },
    // `init: true` if you want to update the current state with the data above
    //
    // Setting init at true will do a write to said key when the object is initialized
    // Init can be omitted on properties where writing to state on initialization is not wanted
    init: true,
  };
}
  1. React to updates
import { StoxyElement } from "@stoxy/element-mixin";

class MyComponent extends StoxyElement(HTMLElement) {
  static stoxyProperties = {
    key: "example-data",
    state: {
      username: "World",
      clicks: 0,
      description: "This is a example of Stoxy Element Mixin",
    },
    init: true,
  };

  stoxyUpdated(_changedProperties) {
    this.updateComponent();
  }

  updateComponent() {
    // Do UI updates
  }
}

After the setup, every time you update the state from anywhere in your application with the commands from @stoxy/core, the state properties will be updated on your class too.

Using with LitElement

Stoxy Element Mixin ships with direct support to some web component libraries.

The current tested ones is mainly LitElement.

A setup with LitElement would look like the following:

import { StoxyElement } from "@stoxy/element-mixin";
import { LitElement, html } from "lit-element";

class MyComponent extends StoxyElement(LitElement) {
  static stoxyProperties = {
    key: "example-data",
    state: {
      username: "World",
      clicks: 0,
      description: "This is a example of Stoxy Element Mixin",
    },
    init: true,
  };

  static get properties() {
    return {
      username: { type: String },
      clicks: { type: Number },
      description: { type: String },
    };
  }

  constructor() {
    super();

    this.username = "";
    this.clicks = 0;
    this.description = "";
  }

  render() {
    return html`
      <h2>Hello, ${this.username}!</h2>
      <p>You have clicked the clicker ${this.clicks} times</p>
      <p>${this.description}</p>
    `;
  }
}

Since the property change reactions are handled by litelement, implementing the stoxyUpdated method is not necessary.
