Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Executable requirements and enforceable architecture decisions for software teams and coding agents.

Premise

Executable requirements and architecture constraints, linked to the decisions they support.

Code can still follow an architecture decision after a new requirement makes that decision unsuitable. Premise checks the supporting claims and brings affected decisions back for review, without erasing why they were made.

For example, adding a sorting requirement to a query that only returns upstream results:

QUERY-001 failed via cucumber.
- Cucumber did not establish QUERY-001 (features/query.feature)
Reconsider decision QUERY-010: Query upstream systems directly

Reason: Supporting premise QUERY-001 failed.
Reason: Decision has not been reviewed against its current drivers.

Excerpt from premise check. The full report includes the requirement, original decision and next steps.

  • Check repository claims. Evaluate Gherkin behaviour with Cucumber and dependency rules with dependency-cruiser. Missing or inconclusive evidence is not a pass.
  • Review decisions when their drivers change. Reaffirm a choice after reconsidering it, or record a replacement with Supersedes. Decisions remain human judgement, not mechanically proven truths.
  • Keep checks in the agent workflow. OMP, Codex and Claude Code integrations supply relevant context and check evidence and decision history before completion.

Install

Requires Node.js 20 or newer.

npm install --save-dev @stuplum/premise

Other package managers.

Follow Getting started to adopt Premise with a coding agent or add your first executable requirement manually. Once configured:

npm exec -- premise check
npm exec -- premise context src/payment.ts

The documentation index separates user guides and reference material from design proposals, internal decision records and historical experiments.

Status

Experimental 0.2 software. Current executable providers are Cucumber and dependency-cruiser; architecture decisions use the .decision format and a human review lifecycle.

Agent hooks are workflow enforcement, not a security boundary. Host limits and interrupted sessions can bypass the normal completion path. See agent setup and limitations before relying on them.
