Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Astro integration for svjeez: import a scene into a page and get an animated SVG, with poster stills.

Readme

@svjeez/astro

An Astro integration for svjeez scenes, built on @svjeez/vite. Put a scene into a page, and the integration compiles it to an animated SVG with poster stills.

Install

npx astro add @svjeez/astro
npm i -D svjeez

On Node 20, use npm 11, pnpm or bun. npm 10, the npm that ships with Node 20, crashes while it installs Vite 8 (Cannot read properties of null (reading 'edgesOut')). Run npm i -g npm@11 to update it.

Posters need playwright-core and a Chromium build:

npm i -D playwright-core
npx playwright-core install chromium-headless-shell

Use

Add the integration to astro.config.mjs:

import svjeez from "@svjeez/astro";
import { defineConfig } from "astro/config";

export default defineConfig({ integrations: [svjeez()] });

Astro compiles a page's imports with the project's JSX settings, so a scene that a page imports needs svjeez's JSX. Start the scene with /** @jsxImportSource svjeez */, or set "jsxImportSource": "svjeez" in tsconfig.json.

Show a scene with <Scene>:

---
import Scene from "@svjeez/astro/Scene.astro";
import hero from "../scenes/hero.tsx";
---

<Scene scene={hero} />

getScene() gives the SVG's URL, size, text, and source while the page renders. Pass posters to get a still frame per color scheme:

---
import { getScene } from "@svjeez/astro/scene";
import hero from "../scenes/hero.tsx";

const image = getScene(hero, { posters: { scale: 2 } });
const { light, dark } = image.posters!;
---

<picture>
  <source srcset={dark} media="(prefers-color-scheme: dark)" />
  <img src={light} width={image.width} height={image.height} alt={image.desc} />
</picture>

A page can also import a scene with ?svjeez, as described in @svjeez/vite.

The dev server serves each file under /_svjeez/, named by its content. The build writes them to the same path. Posters are cached in Astro's cache directory.
