Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Scroll motion without the JavaScript tax: native CSS scroll-driven animations, spring and S-curve easings as CSS linear(), a tiny fallback, reduced motion by default.

Sigmoid

Scroll motion without the JavaScript tax. Sigmoid runs reveals, parallax and scroll-linked animations on native CSS scroll timelines, ships spring and S-curve easings as CSS linear(), falls back to one tiny scroll listener where needed and respects reduced motion by default. About 3 kB for a reveal.

Docs and live demo: packages.sweber.dev/sigmoid

| Package | What it does | |---|---| | @sweberdev/sigmoid | reveal, parallax, scrub, progress, init, easing curves, sigmoid.css | | @sweberdev/sigmoid-react | Reveal, Parallax, ScrollProgress, useReveal, useScrub, useReducedMotion | | @sweberdev/sigmoid-vue | v-reveal, v-parallax, useReveal, useScrollProgress, useStory | | @sweberdev/sigmoid-svelte | use:reveal, use:parallax, use:track, use:story |

Zero JavaScript

import "@sweberdev/sigmoid/sigmoid.css";
<h2 data-sigmoid="fade-up">Our work</h2>
<img data-sigmoid="parallax" src="hero.jpg" alt="" />
<div data-sigmoid="progress" class="reading-bar"></div>

Browsers with scroll-driven animations animate this with CSS alone. init() from @sweberdev/sigmoid covers the others.

JavaScript

import { ease, parallax, reveal, scrub } from "@sweberdev/sigmoid";

reveal(".card", { keyframes: "scale-in", range: "entry 0% cover 40%", easing: ease.bouncy });
parallax(".hero img", { distance: 80 });
scrub(".sky", [{ backgroundColor: "#bde0fe" }, { backgroundColor: "#03045e" }]);

Easing that works in CSS and JavaScript

import { spring } from "@sweberdev/sigmoid/easing";

const pop = spring({ duration: 0.5, bounce: 0.3 });
pop(0.5);      // 1.037
`${pop}`;      // "linear(0, 0.0009 0.42%, …, 1)"
pop.duration;  // 819 (ms until it rests)

Physically correct springs, the logistic S-curve and Bézier curves, simplified to 20 to 40 linear() stops. Use them with Motion, GSAP, CSS transitions or Tailwind.

React

import { ease } from "@sweberdev/sigmoid";
import { Reveal, ScrollProgress } from "@sweberdev/sigmoid-react";

<ScrollProgress className="fixed inset-x-0 top-0 h-1 bg-black" />
<Reveal as="article" preset="fade-up" easing={ease.bouncy}>…</Reveal>

Size

| Import | min+gzip | |---|---| | reveal + init | about 3.1 kB | | everything | about 4.9 kB | | @sweberdev/sigmoid/easing | about 1.3 kB |

pnpm size checks these budgets in CI.

Development

pnpm install
pnpm build && pnpm test && pnpm lint && pnpm size

Changes go through pull requests with a changeset (pnpm changeset). Merging the version PR publishes to npm.
