Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

React integration for Zen state manager

Readme

@sylphx/zen-react

React integration for Zen state manager. Use Zen stores in React components with automatic reactivity.

Installation

npm install @sylphx/zen-react
# or
bun add @sylphx/zen-react

Usage

Basic Example

import { zen, set } from '@sylphx/zen';
import { useStore } from '@sylphx/zen-react';

// Create a zen store
const count = zen(0);

function Counter() {
  // Use it in a React component - automatically subscribes
  const value = useStore(count);

  return (
    <div>
      <p>Count: {value}</p>
      <button onClick={() => set(count, value + 1)}>
        Increment
      </button>
    </div>
  );
}

With Computed Values

import { zen, computed } from '@sylphx/zen';
import { useStore } from '@sylphx/zen-react';

const count = zen(0);
const doubled = computed(count, (n) => n * 2);

function App() {
  const countValue = useStore(count);
  const doubledValue = useStore(doubled);

  return (
    <div>
      <p>Count: {countValue}</p>
      <p>Doubled: {doubledValue}</p>
    </div>
  );
}

Shared State Across Components

// stores/counter.ts
import { zen } from '@sylphx/zen';

export const counter = zen(0);
// ComponentA.tsx
import { useStore } from '@sylphx/zen-react';
import { counter } from './stores/counter';

export function ComponentA() {
  const count = useStore(counter);
  return <p>Count: {count}</p>;
}
// ComponentB.tsx
import { set } from '@sylphx/zen';
import { useStore } from '@sylphx/zen-react';
import { counter } from './stores/counter';

export function ComponentB() {
  const count = useStore(counter);

  return (
    <button onClick={() => set(counter, count + 1)}>
      Increment
    </button>
  );
}

API

useStore<Value>(store: Zen<Value>): Value

Subscribes to a Zen store and returns its current value.

Parameters:

  • store: Any Zen store (zen, computed, map, deepMap, task, etc.)

Returns:

  • The current value of the store

Features:

  • ✅ Automatically subscribes on component mount
  • ✅ Automatically unsubscribes on component unmount
  • ✅ Uses useSyncExternalStore in React 18+ for concurrent mode support
  • ✅ Falls back to useState + useEffect for React 16/17
  • ✅ SSR-safe
  • ✅ TypeScript support

Why Use Zen with React?

  • 🎯 Simple: Just one hook to learn
  • 🪶 Tiny: Minimal bundle size (~300 bytes)
  • Fast: Optimized for performance
  • 🔒 Type-safe: Full TypeScript support
  • 🌐 Framework-agnostic stores: Share state logic across different frameworks
  • 📦 No boilerplate: No providers, no context, just import and use
