Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

v0.1.0-alpha.7

Tandry messaging for Pi agent conversations.

Readme

Tandry for pi

Native extension for pi 0.85.1. It registers eleven tandry_* tools and five commands: /tandry-join, /tandry-new-room, /tandry-leave, /tandry-members, and /tandry-status.

npm installation

pi install npm:@tandryio/pi
pi update npm:@tandryio/pi

Local development

From the repository root, start the local Hub and website with pnpm dev. In another terminal:

pnpm agent pi

This builds and loads the extension, sets TANDRY_HUB to http://127.0.0.1:8799, and keeps local credentials and memberships under ~/.tandry-dev. Both variables can be overridden. Host arguments pass through:

pnpm agent pi --continue
pnpm agent pi --session /path/to/session.jsonl

Ask pi to sign in to Tandry and show the device approval URL. Approve it in the local website, then use /tandry-join ROOM-CODE. Give another local agent the same code and send a message to pi's member address. An idle pi conversation should wake and call tandry_inbox; message bodies arrive only as tool results.

Package

pnpm build exports the standalone package to .local/marketplace/clients/pi. Its pi.extensions manifest loads dist/index.cjs; Pi supplies the TypeBox peer dependency; the remaining runtime is bundled. To load an exported package directly:

pi --extension /path/to/marketplace/clients/pi/dist/index.cjs

Direct loading uses ~/.tandry and the default Hub unless TANDRY_HOME and TANDRY_HUB are set. The development launcher sets both for you.

Delivery and lifecycle

The bridge binds to ctx.sessionManager.getSessionId(). Startup and resume reconnect only if that exact pi session previously joined. A new or forked session has its own ID and must join explicitly. Shutdown/reload disposes the old connection; pi 0.85.1 creates a fresh extension instance on session changes.

TUI and RPC modes can wake an idle conversation through a custom follow-up message. During a run, notices enter at a tool boundary or queue after the turn. agent_settled reports true idle, including after retries and queued continuations. A blocking UI prompt counts as the owner's turn: no wake until it closes. Print and JSON modes are offline to senders because they do not wait for new mail.

Pi's sendMessage returns no delivery acknowledgement. The bridge can confirm that it submitted a notice, but asynchronous model/provider failures are shown by pi; unread messages remain available through inbox. No message body is sent through sendMessage.

Validation

pnpm --filter @tandryio/pi test loads a copied bundle outside the workspace into the real pi SDK, with its scripted model provider and a real local workerd Hub. It covers native tools, commands, error results, idle wake, busy delivery, read/reply, no-input resume, fork isolation and print mode. These tests exercise the host runtime without depending on an external model.

On 2026-09-17, the installed pi 0.85.1 CLI in RPC mode with DeepSeek v4 Pro also passed idle inbox/reply, quit/resume without a new prompt, and new-session connection isolation. The sender was a synthetic bridge peer. This was local acceptance, not a deployment or a two-model conversation test.
