Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Opinionated Create React App template with Typescript.1

1: PWA, eslint, Material UI, react-router, jest, react-testing-library, Google Analytics, Sentry, apollo-client, zustand, craco, and other bits and bobs.

npm style

Usage

$ npx create-react-app my-app --template @tasoskakour/cra-template-typescript

If building a React library

If you want to use this template to build a react library, or just a React app that will be imported from another React/JS project, then you would have to adjust the build command and add a tsconfig.build.json file to specify what and how you want to build.

Personally I adjust the build and also add a copyfiles command as

"copy-files": "copyfiles -f src/**/*.{css,svg} dist/",
"build": "NODE_ENV=production rm -rf dist && yarn copy-files &&  tsc --build \"./tsconfig.build.json\"",

and I add tsconfig.build.json file with the below configuration (depends on what components you want to actually build):

{
  "compilerOptions": {
    "target": "es5",
    "lib": ["es2015", "dom"],
    "outDir": "dist",
    "jsx": "react-jsx",
    "module": "commonjs",
    "declaration": true,
    "declarationMap": true,
    "sourceMap": true,
    "strict": true,
    "noImplicitAny": false,
    "strictNullChecks": true,
    "strictFunctionTypes": true,
    "strictPropertyInitialization": true,
    "noImplicitThis": true,
    "alwaysStrict": true,
    "noUnusedLocals": true,
    "noUnusedParameters": true,
    "noImplicitReturns": true,
    "noFallthroughCasesInSwitch": true,
    "moduleResolution": "node",
    "resolveJsonModule": true,
    "esModuleInterop": true,
    "allowSyntheticDefaultImports": true,
    "forceConsistentCasingInFileNames": true
  },
  "include": [
    "src/components"
  ],
  "files": [ "./src/components/index.ts", "./src/react-app-env.d.ts"],
  "exclude": [
    "node_modules",
    "**/*.test.ts"
  ]
}

Finally I set the main property of package.json to something like "main": "dist/index.js",

Note: Be sure to edit .env & .github/workflows/ci.yml accordingly, before starting developing!

The end

🥰 Big props to my buddy Napoleon, as this repo is heavily influenced from his own cra-template.
