Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Node-only authoritative resource scheduling and worker transport for Termwright

Readme

@termwright/resource-broker

The authoritative, Node-only resource scheduler used by Termwright's native test host. It prevents parallel workers from overcommitting pseudo-terminals, external processes, semantic endpoints, and trace writers.

Most test suites should select a Termwright resource profile instead of importing this package. The direct API exists for host integrations and deterministic scheduler tests; those integrations can install it with pnpm add @termwright/resource-broker.

Scheduling contract

A request reserves its complete resource vector atomically or waits in the visible FIFO queue. Smaller requests cannot bypass the head and starve an older multi-resource request. Deadlines, aborts, worker epochs, attempt ownership, and lease tokens fail closed. A lease reports attached process/session identities and must be released explicitly.

import { ResourceBroker } from '@termwright/resource-broker';

const broker = new ResourceBroker({
  runId,
  capacities: {
    ptySession: 4,
    externalProcess: 4,
    semanticEndpoint: 4,
    traceWriter: 4,
  },
});

broker.registerWorker({ runId, workerId: 'worker-1', workerEpoch: 1 });
const lease = await broker.acquire({
  runId,
  workerId: 'worker-1',
  workerEpoch: 1,
  attemptId,
  resources: { ptySession: 1, externalProcess: 1 },
  deadline,
});

await lease.attach([{ resource: 'externalProcess', pid: child.pid }]);
await lease.release();

snapshot() returns capacities, current use, active leases, attachments, and queued requests for diagnostics. It is observational and does not grant resources.

Worker transport

@termwright/resource-broker/transport exposes the authenticated local IPC server and client used between the host and Vitest workers. The server creates a random token by default, requires hello before requests, binds identity to the current run and worker epoch, bounds frames/connections/request counts, and uses constant-time token comparison. Treat both its endpoint and token as ephemeral secrets; do not expose the transport on a network or persist credentials.

Node.js 22 and 24 are supported.
