Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

v0.6.0

Published

theFinder for Next.js: App Router API route, uploads route and standalone-aware project paths for a drop-in file manager.

Readme

Install

npm i @thefinder/next @thefinder/react

Setup in three files

// lib/finder.ts
import { createTheFinder, localDriver, uploadsDir } from "@thefinder/next";
import { sharpThumbnailer } from "@thefinder/core/sharp"; // sharp already ships with Next.js

export const finder = createTheFinder({
  volumes: [{ id: "uploads", name: "Uploads", driver: localDriver({ root: uploadsDir() }), url: "/uploads" }],
  thumbnails: { generator: sharpThumbnailer() },
});
// app/api/files/route.ts
import { createNextRoutes } from "@thefinder/next";
import { finder } from "@/lib/finder";

export const runtime = "nodejs";
export const { GET, POST } = createNextRoutes(finder);
// app/uploads/[...path]/route.ts
import { createUploadsRoute } from "@thefinder/next";

export const runtime = "nodejs";
export const { GET, HEAD } = createUploadsRoute();

Then render <TheFinder endpoint="/api/files" /> on any page.

Why it's standalone-ready

  • uploadsDir() always points to <project root>/uploads, also inside a standalone build where server.js runs from .next/standalone. Override it with CI_FINDER_UPLOADS_DIR or CI_FINDER_ROOT.
  • createUploadsRoute serves files uploaded after the build (unlike public/), with Range, ETag/304 and a sandbox CSP for HTML/SVG.
  • Environment variables are read in a way that keeps Next's file tracer from copying your whole project (and its uploads) into the bundle.
  • Thumbnails in standalone: file tracing does not pick up sharp's native libraries, so add them to next.config: outputFileTracingIncludes: { "/api/files": ["./node_modules/@img/**/*"] }. Without it the file manager still works and serves the original images instead of thumbnails.

Authorization

import { TheFinderError } from "@thefinder/next";

createTheFinder({
  volumes,
  authorize: async ({ request }) => {
    const session = await getSession(request);
    if (!session) throw new TheFinderError("UNAUTHORIZED"); // → 401
    if (session.role === "viewer") return { readOnly: true };
    return true;
  },
});

All theFinder packages

| Package | | |---|---| | @thefinder/core | Server engine, drivers, adapters, client | | @thefinder/react | The file manager UI and file picker | | @thefinder/next | Next.js routes, standalone-ready (this package) | | @thefinder/ckeditor | CKEditor 5 / 4 connector |
