Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

ReactHead

A lightweight and flexible React component for managing document head elements. ReactHead provides an intuitive way to manage meta tags, title, base, links, scripts, and other head elements in your React applications.

Note

If you are using Next JS, try to use SSR Metadata. This package only focuses on Client Side Metadata. So, it may not be useful in SEO (YET!)

Features

  • 🔄 Dynamic head management
  • 🎯 TypeScript support
  • 🎨 Declarative API
  • 🚀 Zero dependencies
  • 📦 Small bundle size
  • 🔌 Works with any React application

Installation

Install the Package Via npm:

npm install @theprojectsx/react-head

Or yarn:

yarn add @theprojectsx/react-head

Usage

ReactHead provides two ways to manage your document head:

  1. Using the ReactHead component (Recommended)
  2. Using the useReactHead hook

Use Either of those and pass data as a regular tag, no huss no fuss!

Using the Component

import ReactHead from "@theprojectsx/react-head";

const MyPage() {
    return (
        <>
            <ReactHead>
                <title>My Page Title</title>
                <meta name="description" content="Page description" />
                <meta property="og:title" content="Open Graph Title" />
                <meta
                    property="og:description"
                    content="Open Graph Description"
                />
                <link rel="icon" href="/favicon.ico" />
                <script src="https://example.com/script.js" />
            </ReactHead>
            {/* Your page content */}
        </>
    );
}

export default MyPage

Using the Hook

import { useReactHead } from '@theprojectsx/react-head';

const MyPage() {
  useReactHead({
    title: 'My Page Title',
    meta: [
      { name: 'description', content: 'Page description' },
      { property: 'og:title', content: 'Open Graph Title' },
      { property: 'og:description', content: 'Open Graph Description' }
    ],
    link: [
      { rel: 'icon', href: '/favicon.ico' }
    ],
    script: [
      { src: 'https://example.com/script.js' }
    ]
  });

  return (
    // Your page content
  );
}

export default MyPage

Supported Elements

ReactHead supports the following head elements:

  • title - Document title
  • base - Base URL and target
  • meta - Meta tags (including charset, name, property, and http-equiv)
  • link - External resources (stylesheets, icons, etc.)
  • style - Internal and External styles
  • script - JavaScript files and inline scripts
  • noscript - Fallback content for browsers with JavaScript disabled
  • template - HTML templates

TypeScript Support

ReactHead includes TypeScript definitions. The component and hook are fully typed:

interface UseReactHeadProps {
    title?: string;
    base?: Record<string, any>;
    meta?: Record<string, any>[];
    link?: Record<string, any>[];
    style?: Record<string, any>[];
    script?: Record<string, any>[];
    noscript?: Record<string, any>[];
    template?: Record<string, any>[];
}

Best Practices

  1. Use the ReactHead component when you need to manage head elements declaratively
  2. Use the useReactHead hook when you need to manage head elements programmatically
  3. Keep meta tags organized and meaningful for SEO
  4. Update head elements when route or content changes
  5. Remove unnecessary head elements when components unmount
