Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@thesvg/preact

Typed Preact SVG components for all 7,600+ brand icons from thesvg.org.

  • Zero runtime dependencies (preact is a peer dependency)
  • Pre-compiled h() calls, no JSX transform needed to consume it
  • Works with preact-render-to-string and hydration
  • Props pass straight through to the <svg> element
  • Tree-shakeable ESM plus CJS, one module per icon
  • Gradient and mask ids are namespaced per render with useId, so icons never clash on one page

Installation

pnpm add @thesvg/preact
npm install @thesvg/preact

Requires preact 10.11 or later (for useId).

Usage

Named import from the barrel

import { Github, VisualStudioCode, Figma } from "@thesvg/preact";

export function Stack() {
  return (
    <div>
      <Github width={24} height={24} />
      <VisualStudioCode width={24} height={24} class="text-blue-500" />
      <Figma width={32} height={32} aria-label="Figma" />
    </div>
  );
}

Individual import (smallest bundle)

import Github from "@thesvg/preact/github";
import VisualStudioCode from "@thesvg/preact/visual-studio-code";

Selecting a variant

Many brands ship more than one mark. Pass variant to pick one. It defaults to "default" and is typed per icon.

import { Github } from "@thesvg/preact";

<Github variant="mono" />;

Sizing and color

Components have no fixed size. Set width and height, or size them with CSS. Monochrome artwork inherits currentColor, so class="text-red-500" recolors it.

Refs

Preact does not pass ref to function components. To get the <svg> element, wrap the icon in an element you control, or use forwardRef from preact/compat.

Naming

Component names are the PascalCase of the icon slug (visual-studio-code becomes VisualStudioCode). Slugs that start with a digit get an I prefix (01dotai becomes I01Dotai). Browse slugs at thesvg.org.

Types

import type { SvgIconProps, SvgIconComponent } from "@thesvg/preact/types";
