Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Ylem - Microkernel Agent Cognitive OS Engine

Readme

🚀 Ylem

Ylem — A Microkernel Agent Cognitive OS Engine built with TypeScript.

License: MIT TypeScript Build Tool Test GitHub Repo

Ylem is a highly extensible, decoupled Agent cognitive base and control plane engine. Built on a Microkernel architecture, Ylem completely decouples core workflow orchestration from specific LLM drivers, toolsets, and third-party libraries.

✨ Features

  • 🧠 Microkernel Architecture: core/ manages the Agent lifecycle, plugin dispatching, and context flow with zero hard dependencies on third-party AI libraries.
  • 🔌 Plugin-Driven Ecosystem: All LLM adapters (e.g., OpenAI/Vercel AI SDK), toolsets (e.g., GitLab Tooling), and data-plane interactions are injected as plugins.
  • 🛡️ Strict Encapsulation: Third-party SDKs are abstracted and encapsulated to prevent dependency breakage across the system.
  • 📦 Cross-Platform Bundling: Built with tsup to output ESM, CommonJS, and UMD (IIFE) artifacts, supporting Node.js, Web browsers, and mobile containers.
  • 🧪 In-Repo Playground: Includes a lightweight Vue 3 testing environment that directly loads dist/ artifacts for end-to-end verification.
  • Fast Unit Testing: Integrated with Vitest for automated testing of lifecycle hooks and core logic with mock support.

📂 Project Structure

For detailed directory breakdowns, module descriptions, and update history, please refer to CATALOG.md.

📦 Quick Start

1. Install Dependencies

pnpm install

2. Build the Project

Build output artifacts to the dist/ directory:

pnpm run build

3. Run Unit Tests

pnpm run test

4. Start Local Playground

pnpm run playground

💻 Usage Example

import { YlemAgent, OpenAIPlugin } from 'ylem';

async function main() {
    // 1. Initialize Ylem Microkernel
    const agent = new YlemAgent();

    // 2. Inject third-party plugins
    agent.use(new OpenAIPlugin({
        apiKey: process.env.OPENAI_API_KEY
    }));

    // 3. Run Agent execution loop
    const response = await agent.run('Analyze current project architecture', 'user_001');
    console.log(response);
}

main();
