Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Generate bash commands from natural language using existing AI tools (GitHub Copilot CLI, Gemini CLI)

tinykode/gen

Generate bash commands from natural language using AI. Commands are generated directly into your terminal, ready to execute.

Safety Warning

⚠️ For vibecoding only ⚠️

This tool is designed for people who copy-paste commands from StackOverflow and ChatGPT without understanding them. If that's not you, you probably don't need this.

Commands appear in your terminal input line with no explanation or confirmation. One Enter key away from execution.

Disclaimer

Use at your own risk. This tool can generate destructive commands. But hey, you're already copy-pasting from ChatGPT anyway.

Installation

Step 1: Install the package

npm install -g @tinykode/gen

Step 2: Configure zsh integration (optional, zsh only)

If you're using zsh, run the configuration to add the write helper as a zsh function:

gen configure
source ~/.zshrc

This enables commands to appear directly in your terminal input line, ready to execute.

Without zsh setup: Commands will be printed to the console only. You'll need to copy-paste them manually.

Prerequisites

Install one of these AI tools:

GitHub Copilot CLI:

npm install -g @github/copilot

Gemini CLI:

npm install -g @google/gemini-cli

Claude Code:

npm install -g @anthropic-ai/claude-code

Usage

gen "find all files larger than 100MB"
# → Command appears: find . -size +100M -type f -ls
# → Press Enter to execute

gen "compress old log files" -p gemini
gen "kill all processes on port 3000"

Provider Management

gen provider -list # List available providers
gen provider -set copilot # Set default provider to Copilot
gen provider -set claude # Set default provider to Claude

How it Works

  1. Uses your existing AI CLI tools (no new subscriptions)
  2. Sends your prompt to AI
  3. Places generated command in your terminal using print -z
  4. You press Enter to execute
