Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

🍪 CRUMB: the guided-tour / AI-review layer

Made with Claude License: Apache 2.0 Status

Tours as markdown, in. A guided walk, out. CRUMB is PROOF's twin: where PROOF renders plans-as-markdown as a board that never writes, CRUMB renders tours-as-markdown as a guided projection that writes only through the app's own door, and never submits. Published as @tjakoen/crumb and live: it's the guided-tour frame running on tjakoen.github.io today.

What's built

Core, routes, loader, crumb check, and from-timeline (turning grain's audit trail into a review tour) are all built and shipping in 0.1.4. crumb-live.js drives the lamp + popover client-side. What's still open is tracked in PLAN.md.

A tour can also end by asking the reviewer what the walk could not check, and hand back a prompt to paste into a session:

## prompt
- ask: reads-wrong | Anything here that reads wrong?
- ask: next | What should change?
- template: Continue the {title} review.\nWrong: {reads-wrong}\nNext: {next}
- handoff: https://claude.ai/new?q={payload}

Nothing is submitted: the answers compose into text in the browser, and where that text goes is the tour's own URL template to declare.

Quickstart

bun add @tjakoen/crumb
bunx crumb check tours/     # lint a tours/ folder

Mount it as a read-only layer alongside your app:

import { createCrumbRoutes } from "@tjakoen/crumb/routes.ts";

const crumbRoutes = createCrumbRoutes({ toursDir: "./tours" });
// mount crumbRoutes(pathname) inside your own request handler

🤖 Built with Claude, and every tour is a projection, never a fork. I decided what "reviewed" has to mean, Claude typed the parser that enforces it. I don't prompt and pray, I prompt and prove. How I actually work with AI, receipts and all →
