Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

logd

CLI tool and MCP server for logging and semantically searching decisions using local LLM embeddings.

Decisions are stored in a local SQLite database with vector embeddings (via sqlite-vec) for semantic search. Embeddings are computed locally using Ollama with Qwen3-Embedding-0.6B.

Prerequisites

ollama pull qwen3-embedding:0.6b

Install

npm install -g logd

Or run from source:

git clone https://github.com/tonytangdev/logd.git
cd logd
npm install
npm run build
npm link

Usage

Manage projects

Decisions are scoped by project. Create a project first:

logd project create "my-app" -d "Main application"
logd project list

Add decisions

logd add "Use Postgres for persistence" -p my-app -c "Need ACID transactions" -t backend -t database
logd add "Choose React over Vue" -p my-app -a "Vue" -a "Svelte" -t frontend

Search decisions

logd search "what database did we choose?"
logd search "frontend framework" -p my-app --verbose
logd search "database" --threshold 0.5 --limit 3

View, edit, delete

logd show <id>
logd edit <id> --status superseded
logd edit <id> -t new-tag-1 -t new-tag-2  # replaces all tags
logd delete <id>
logd list -p my-app --status active

MCP Server

Start the MCP server for AI agent integration:

logd serve

Add to your Claude Code MCP config (~/.claude/claude_desktop_config.json):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "logd": {
      "command": "logd",
      "args": ["serve"]
    }
  }
}

Available tools

| Tool | Description | |---|---| | logd_add_decision | Create a decision | | logd_search_decisions | Semantic search | | logd_show_decision | Get decision by ID | | logd_edit_decision | Partial update | | logd_delete_decision | Delete by ID | | logd_list_decisions | List with filters | | logd_create_project | Create project | | logd_list_projects | List projects |

Configuration

| Setting | Default | Env var | CLI flag | |---|---|---|---| | Ollama URL | http://localhost:11434 | LOGD_OLLAMA_URL | --ollama-url | | Model | qwen3-embedding:0.6b | LOGD_MODEL | --model | | DB path | ~/.logd/logd.db | LOGD_DB_PATH | --db-path |

Precedence: defaults < env vars < CLI flags.
