Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Automatically connect Android devices over ADB TCP/IP.

ADBC

CI npm version License: MIT

Wirelessly connect to Android devices over ADB TCP/IP - automatically detect your network gateway and switch USB-connected devices to Wi-Fi ADB.

Requirements

  • Node.js >= 22
  • adb (Android platform-tools) in your PATH
  • USB debugging enabled on the target device

Installation

NPM

npm install -g @tooldroid/adbc

From source

git clone https://github.com/ToolDroidYT/adbc.git
cd adbc
npm install
npm run build
npm link

Usage

adbc

The tool handles two scenarios:

No devices connected: Attempts to connect to <gateway>:5555 directly, in case a device was previously switched to TCP/IP mode.

One or more USB devices connected:

  1. Detects your default gateway IP
  2. If multiple devices are found, prompts you to select one
  3. Switches the selected device to TCP/IP mode on port 5555
  4. Connects to the device wirelessly via adb connect <gateway>:5555

Platform Support

| Platform | Gateway detection | | ---------------- | ------------------------------------------ | | Linux | ip route → /proc/net/route → netstat | | Android (Termux) | ip route → /proc/net/route → netstat | | macOS | netstat -nr -f inet | | Windows | ipconfig → netstat -rn |

Linux and Android (Termux) use a fallback chain: primary method via ip route show default, then /proc/net/route parsing, then netstat -rn.

Detected gateways are validated as IPv4 addresses, because adb connect requires an IPv4 host. IPv6 default routes (for example a Windows fe80:: gateway), 0.0.0.0 and link-local/APIPA (169.254.x.x) addresses are ignored.

Architecture

| Module | Purpose | | ------------ | --------------------------------------------------------- | | index.ts | CLI entry point and main workflow | | adb.ts | ADB device listing, parsing, TCP/IP switching, connecting | | network.ts | Platform-specific default gateway detection | | command.ts | Child process runner with 30s timeout | | ui.ts | Colored terminal output and interactive device selection | | types.ts | TypeScript interfaces (AdbDevice, CommandResult) |

Development

npm run dev # Run without building
npm run build # Compile TypeScript + minify with esbuild
npm run start # Run compiled output
npm run test # Run tests (Vitest)
npm run test:watch # Run tests in watch mode
npm run lint # Check for lint errors (ESLint)
npm run lint:fix # Auto-fix lint errors
npm run format # Format code with Prettier
npm run typecheck # Type-check without emitting

CI Pipeline

The CI runs on every push and pull request to main:

  1. typecheck - TypeScript type checking
  2. lint - ESLint analysis
  3. format:check - Prettier formatting verification
  4. build - Compilation and minification
  5. test - Unit tests
  6. Upload dist/ as a build artifact

Contributing

  1. Fork the repository
  2. Create a feature branch
  3. Ensure npm run typecheck, npm run lint, npm run format:check, npm run build, and npm run test all pass
  4. Submit a pull request
