Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

Unified developer CLI for TopGun — an offline-first real-time data platform.

Install

# Global install
npm install -g @topgunbuild/cli

Quick Start

# Check your environment
topgun doctor

# Interactive project setup (writes .env with zero-config defaults)
topgun setup

# Start the development server (requires topgun-server binary)

Setup Flow

After running topgun setup, a .env file is written with:

  • TOPGUN_NO_AUTH=1 — local dev runs without auth tokens; set JWT_SECRET for any networked/production deployment
  • STORAGE_BACKEND=redb — zero-config embedded storage (no Postgres, no Docker required)

Then topgun dev starts the server using those settings.

Note on topgun dev

The dev command starts a prebuilt target/release/topgun-server binary from the current working directory. This binary is built from the TopGun monorepo. A future release will ship prebuilt server binaries (see TODO-365).
