Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Build & Release PR Welcome npm version semantic-release code style: prettier github opencollective

A package of Ts.ED framework. See website: https://tsed.io

Feature

EventEmitter module (@tsed/event-emitter) allows you to subscribe and listen for various events that occur in your application based on methods decorated by @OnEvent and @OnAny. Events can be emitted via the EventEmitterService.

Events serve as a great way to decouple various aspects of your application, since a single event can have multiple listeners that do not depend on each other. For example, you may wish to send a Slack notification to your user each time an order has shipped. Instead of coupling your order processing code to your Slack notification code, you can raise an OrderShipped event, which a listener can receive and transform into a Slack notification.

The module internally uses the eventemitter2 package. For more information look at the documentation here;

Installation

To begin, install the EventEmitter module for Ts.ED:

npm install --save @tsed/event-emitter
npm install --save eventemitter2

Configure your server

Import @tsed/event-emitter in your Server:

import {Configuration} from "@tsed/common";
import "@tsed/event-emitter"; // import event emitter ts.ed module

@Configuration({
  eventEmitter: {
    enabled: true, // Enable events for this instance.
    // pass any options that you would normally pass to new EventEmitter2(), e.g.
    wildcard: true
  }
})
export class Server {}

Setup event listener

Decorate any method within a Provider (like @Injectable, @Service, @Controller) with the @OnEvent or @OnAny decorator. Make sure the class is imported somewhere or the Provider will not be registered.

import {Injectable} from "@tsed/common";
import {OnEvent} from "@tsed/event-emitter";

interface OrderShippedEvent {
  orderId: string;
}

@Injectable()
export class SlackNotificationService {
  @OnEvent("order.shipped", {
    /* optional: add any option you would normally pass to emitter.on("order.shipped", options) */
  })
  sendOrderNotification(event: OrderShippedEvent) {
    // implement something here
  }
}

Inject EventEmitter

Inject the EventEmitterService instance to interact with it directly, e.g. to emit an event.

import {Service, Inject} from "@tsed/common";
import {EventEmitterService} from "@tsed/event-emitter";

@Service()
export class OrderService {
  @Inject()
  private eventEmitter: EventEmitterService;

  shipIt(orderId: string) {
    // do something ...
    // then send an event
    this.eventEmitter.emit("order.shipped", {orderId});
  }
}
