Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@tsln/create-max

v0.1.0

Published

Scaffolds a TypeScript project for Max [v8] scripts, and optionally [node.script], set up with the @tsln packages

Readme

@tsln/create-max

Creates a project for writing Max scripts in TypeScript, set up with the @tsln packages:

npm create @tsln/max my-device
cd my-device
npm install
npm run watch

It asks whether to add a node/ folder for [node.script] scripts; -- --node or -- --no-node answers without asking (the -- is what passes the flag through npm create).

What you get

my-device/
  src/device.ts # a [v8] script with typed handlers, to rename or copy
  js/ # what Max loads: one compiled file per script in src/ (after a build)
  build.mjs # esbuild: bundles each script with everything it imports
  tsconfig.json # Max's globals and the Live Object Model as types, nothing else
  biome.jsonc
  package.json # the @tsln packages, esbuild, typescript and biome as dev dependencies
  node/             # with --node: a [node.script] script, its own tsconfig and package.json

Every .ts file at the top of src/ compiles to a script of the same name in js/, bundled with its imports, so scripts use @tsln/live-object, @tsln/console, @tsln/timers and other npm packages directly, and nothing has to be copied to where Max can find it. npm run watch recompiles on save, and autowatch = 1 in the script makes Max reload it. Add the js/ folder to Max's search path, or keep patchers next to the compiled scripts.

The node/ folder compiles in place with its own tsconfig.json, since [node.script] is real Node.js and its types can't share a program with the [v8] globals. Its runtime dependencies are installed there, beside the scripts, where Node looks for them.

Versions

The generated package.json pins the @tsln packages to the versions this package was released alongside, so a project starts from a set that was checked together.
