Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Tunnet JavaScript SDK

Readme

@tunnet/sdk

Native bindings for Tunnet - join a machine to your private overlay network from JavaScript or TypeScript.

Use this package to enroll an SDK node, connect to the mesh, list peers, and open byte streams to services on other machines.

Install

npm install @tunnet/sdk
# or
bun add @tunnet/sdk

Quick start

Enroll with an API key

Create an API key in the Tunnet dashboard with the sdk:enroll scope, then enroll once:

import { enroll, TunnetNode } from "@tunnet/sdk";

const result = await enroll({
  controlUrl: "https://control.example.com",
  managementUrl: "https://api.example.com",
  apiKey: process.env.TUNNET_API_KEY!,
  organizationId: "your-org-id",
  networkId: "your-network-id",
  hostname: "my-app",
});

console.log(result.endpointId, result.ip, result.network);

const node = await TunnetNode.create({
  controlUrl: "https://control.example.com",
});

const peers = await node.listPeers();
console.log(peers);

Enroll with a one-time token

import { enroll, TunnetNode } from "@tunnet/sdk";

await enroll({
  controlUrl: "https://control.example.com",
  token: "YOUR_ENROLLMENT_TOKEN",
});

const node = await TunnetNode.create({
  controlUrl: "https://control.example.com",
});

After the first enroll, identity and state are persisted under your state directory. Later TunnetNode.create() calls reuse them without passing credentials again.

Open a stream to a peer

host can be a peer overlay IP, hostname, or endpoint id:

const stream = await node.openStream("10.64.0.5", 8080);

const chunk = await stream.read(4096);
await stream.write(Buffer.from("hello"));
await stream.end();

await node.close();

Environment variables

| Variable | Purpose | | --- | --- | | CONTROL_PLANE_URL | Control plane URL (used by TunnetNode.create() if not passed in config) | | MANAGEMENT_URL | Management API URL for API-key enrollment | | TUNNET_STATE_DIR | Directory for persisted identity and state |

If stateDir is not set in config, state defaults to the platform XDG/state location.

API

  • enroll(config) - one-shot enrollment; persists identity to disk
  • TunnetNode.create(config) - connect to or start the local overlay node
  • node.endpointId() - this node's endpoint id (hex)
  • node.isCoordinator() - whether this process owns the local coordinator
  • node.listPeers() - peers in the routing table
  • node.openStream(host, port) - duplex stream to a peer service
  • node.close() - shut down the node

See index.d.ts for full TypeScript types.

Platforms

Prebuilt binaries are published for:
