Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@ui-construction-library/behaviors

v0.4.1

Framework-agnostic behavior layer for @ui-construction-library — pure JS state machines, ARIA attributes, and interaction logic.

Readme

@ui-construction-library/behaviors

Framework-agnostic behavior layer for the UI Construction Library. Pure JavaScript state machines, ARIA attribute factories, and interaction logic with zero framework dependencies.

When to use

Use this package when you are building UI in a non-React framework (Solid, Svelte, Vue, vanilla JS) and want accessible, tested interaction patterns for common widgets — buttons, switches, dialogs, tabs, tooltips, sliders, menus, selects, popovers, accordions, and checkbox groups.

For React projects, use @ui-construction-library/core or @ui-construction-library/primitives instead — they consume these behaviors internally.

Installation

pnpm add @ui-construction-library/behaviors

No peer dependencies required — this package works without React.

Minimal example — dialog behavior

import { createDialogBehavior } from '@ui-construction-library/behaviors';

const dialog = createDialogBehavior({
  onOpen: () => console.log('Dialog opened'),
  onClose: () => console.log('Dialog closed'),
});

dialog.open();           // triggers onOpen callback
dialog.close();          // triggers onClose callback
dialog.toggle();         // toggles open/close
console.log(dialog.isOpen()); // true / false

Available behaviors

| Behavior | Description | |---|---| | createButtonBehavior | Click handling, disabled state, loading state | | createSwitchBehavior | Toggle state, ARIA role="switch" attributes | | createCheckboxBehavior | Checked/indeterminate state, ARIA attributes | | createDialogBehavior | Open/close, focus trap trigger, dismiss on Escape | | createTabsBehavior | Tab activation, keyboard navigation (arrow keys, Home, End) | | createTooltipBehavior | Show/hide with delay, pointer tracking | | createSliderBehavior | Range value, step, keyboard increment | | createMenuBehavior | Menu item activation, submenu, keyboard navigation | | createAccordionBehavior | Expand/collapse, keyboard navigation | | createSelectBehavior | Option selection, open/close, keyboard filtering | | createPopoverBehavior | Positioned overlay, dismiss on click outside | | createFieldBehavior | Form field state, validation, error display | | createFocusTrapBehavior | Focus containment, Escape to release |

Compatibility

  • Works in any JS/TS environment (React, Vue, Solid, Svelte, vanilla JS)
  • TypeScript 5.x and 6.x
  • Zero dependencies — 2.5 kB gzipped

Public API

import { createDialogBehavior, createTabsBehavior, createButtonBehavior, ... } from '@ui-construction-library/behaviors';

All behaviors return an object with state getters, action methods, and ARIA attribute helpers.

Troubleshooting

Behavior callbacks not firing — confirm you are calling the returned action methods (.open(), .close(), etc.) rather than mutating state directly. State is internal and read-only via getters.
