Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@ui-construction-library/dnd

v0.1.7

Published

Optional drag-and-drop extension for @ui-construction-library — DndContext, Kanban, sortable abstractions.

Readme

@ui-construction-library/dnd

Drag-and-drop extension for the UI Construction Library. Provides sortable lists, kanban boards, and drag-and-drop interactions built on top of @ui-construction-library/core.

When to use

Use this package when you need drag-and-drop or sortable interactions. It is an optional extension; core works without it.

Installation

pnpm add @ui-construction-library/dnd

Peer dependencies

{
  "react": ">=18.0.0",
  "react-dom": ">=18.0.0"
}

Minimal example — sortable list

import { SortableList, SortableItem, DragHandle } from '@ui-construction-library/dnd';
import { useState } from 'react';

const initialItems = [
  { id: '1', label: 'Design tokens' },
  { id: '2', label: 'Core components' },
  { id: '3', label: 'Integration kits' },
];

function TaskList() {
  const [items, setItems] = useState(initialItems);

  return (
    <SortableList items={items} onReorder={setItems}>
      {items.map((item) => (
        <SortableItem key={item.id} id={item.id}>
          <DragHandle />
          <span>{item.label}</span>
        </SortableItem>
      ))}
    </SortableList>
  );
}

Supported scenarios

  • Sortable vertical lists
  • Sortable horizontal lists
  • Kanban board columns and cards
  • Grid reordering

Accessibility and keyboard support

  • Drag handles are keyboard-accessible (Space to pick up, arrow keys to move, Space or Enter to drop, Escape to cancel)
  • Screen reader announcements for pick-up, move, and drop actions
  • Focus returns to the drag handle after drop

Integration with core

DnD components wrap core components:

import { Card } from '@ui-construction-library/core';
import { SortableItem, DragHandle } from '@ui-construction-library/dnd';

<SortableItem id={item.id}>
  <Card className="p-4">
    <DragHandle />
    {item.label}
  </Card>
</SortableItem>

Compatibility

  • React 18 and 19
  • Works alongside @ui-construction-library/core
  • No CSS side effects

Public API

import { SortableList, SortableItem, DragHandle, DndContext } from '@ui-construction-library/dnd';

Troubleshooting

Items not reordering — confirm you are passing the updated array back via onReorder. The component is controlled — it does not manage order internally.

Keyboard drag not working — ensure the DragHandle element is focusable and not inside a disabled container.
