Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

React bindings for Unitflow.

Readme

@unitflow/react

React binding for Unitflow.

@unitflow/react re-exports @unitflow/core and adds the React pieces: Unitflow, View.make, useStore, and useEvent. Stores and events stay in models; React binds only the model's public ui surface.

Unitflow is inspired by Effector: explicit stores, events, and UI logic outside the component tree, rebuilt around Effect services, layers, scopes, and dependency injection.

Install

pnpm add @unitflow/react @unitflow/core [email protected] react

Imports

import { Event, Model, Store, Unitflow, UnitflowRuntime, View } from "@unitflow/react";

Stores and Events in a Model

Stores and events stay outside React components. A model owns them as part of one UI unit.

import * as Effect from "effect/Effect";
import { Event, Model, Store } from "@unitflow/react";

export class CounterModel extends Model.Service<CounterModel>()(
  "readme/counter",
)({
  make: Effect.gen(function* () {
    const count = Store.make(0);

    const increment = yield* Event.make<void>().pipe(
      Event.handler(() => Store.update(count, (value) => value + 1)),
    );

    return {
      inputs: { increment },
      outputs: { count },
      ui: { count, increment },
    };
  }),
}) {}

View

View.make(Model, render) binds the model's ui for React:

Store in ui -> current value
Event in ui -> callback
Child unit -> value passed to a child View
import { View } from "@unitflow/react";
import { CounterModel } from "./model";

export const CounterView = View.make(CounterModel, ({ count, increment }) => (
  <button type="button" onClick={() => increment()}>
    Count: {count}
  </button>
));

The render callback does not call hooks. inputs and outputs stay outside JSX; React only receives the model's public ui surface.

Runtime

UnitflowRuntime.make(...) receives the model layer graph. Unitflow leases the root model and provides the runtime to child views.

import * as React from "react";
import { createRoot } from "react-dom/client";
import { Unitflow, UnitflowRuntime } from "@unitflow/react";
import { CounterView } from "./CounterView";
import { CounterModel } from "./model";

const runtime = UnitflowRuntime.make(CounterModel.layer);

globalThis.addEventListener("beforeunload", () => {
  void runtime.dispose();
});

createRoot(document.getElementById("root") as HTMLElement).render(
  <React.StrictMode>
    <Unitflow runtime={runtime} rootModel={CounterModel}>
      {(counter) => <CounterView unit={counter} />}
    </Unitflow>
  </React.StrictMode>,
);

Hooks

Most React code should use View.make. Lower-level hooks are available when you are writing a custom binding:

const value = useStore(store);
const submit = useEvent(event);

Both hooks require a <Unitflow> root above them.
