Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Shared Content-Security-Policy directives and security headers helpers for the SvelteKit apps of the atlas monorepo.

Why

Each app used to redeclare its own kit.csp.directives in svelte.config.js and the same five security headers (HSTS, X-Content-Type-Options, Referrer-Policy, Permissions-Policy, X-Frame-Options) in hooks.server.ts. That meant six copies to keep in sync across amarre, ecrin, find-an-expert, sillage, atlas-dashboard, crf-dashboard. This package extracts both pieces into one helper so every app inherits the same conservative defaults.

The defaults preserve the explicit derogations recorded in ADR 0019 — in particular style-src 'unsafe-inline' for Svelte and Bootstrap inline styles. Tightening is tracked sine die under ADR 0001.

Usage

CSP — in svelte.config.js

import adapter from "@sveltejs/adapter-node";
import { vitePreprocess } from "@sveltejs/vite-plugin-svelte";
import { defaultCspDirectives } from "@univ-lehavre/atlas-sveltekit-csp";

const config = {
  preprocess: vitePreprocess(),
  kit: {
    adapter: adapter(),
    csp: { mode: "auto", directives: defaultCspDirectives() },
  },
};

export default config;

To extend a directive (e.g. allow a third-party API host), pass extra:

csp: {
  mode: "auto",
  directives: defaultCspDirectives({
    "connect-src": ["https://baas.univ-lehavre.fr"],
  }),
}

Extra sources are appended to the defaults (dedup-aware), they don't replace them.

Security headers — in hooks.server.ts

import type { Handle } from "@sveltejs/kit";
import { applySecurityHeaders } from "@univ-lehavre/atlas-sveltekit-csp";

export const handle: Handle = async ({ event, resolve }) => {
  const response = await resolve(event);
  applySecurityHeaders(response, event);
  return response;
};

API

  • defaultCspDirectives(extra?: Partial<CspDirectives>) — build the directives object for kit.csp.directives.
  • serialiseCsp(directives) — format directives as a header value ("default-src 'self'; …"). Useful in tests and for routes that emit a per-request CSP.
  • applySecurityHeaders(response, event) — set the five static security headers on a response. HSTS is only set on https:// requests.
  • SECURITY_HEADERS — the raw header values exposed as constants for tests and manual overrides.
