Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

CLI for setting up and syncing the urbicon development harness

Readme

@urbicon-ui/udx

CLI for setting up and synchronizing the urbicon development harness in Bun/Svelte projects. Writes the non-extensible files (cliff.toml, Lefthook hooks, bump.sh, renovate.json) and wires up the extensible config packages (@urbicon-ui/biome-config, @urbicon-ui/commitlint-config, @urbicon-ui/tsconfig).

Installation

bun add -g @urbicon-ui/udx

Local development from this repo:

cd packages/cli && bun link # make available globally
# or directly: bun run packages/cli/src/bin/udx.ts <command>

Commands

| Command | Purpose | | --------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ | | udx init | Set up the harness in a project (auto-detection Svelte vs. plain TS) | | udx sync | Update managed files — pull in process improvements | | udx doctor | Read-only: check for missing/diverging parts (exit code 1 on problems) | | udx adopt <id>| Re-adopt a declined building block (overrides the auto-decline) | | udx skip <id> | Permanently decline a building block (own stack — e.g. husky over lefthook) |

Options

| Flag | Effect | | ------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ | | -n, --dry-run | write nothing, preview only | | -f, --force | also overwrite locally modified managed files & package.json drift | | -i, --interactive | decide per file on conflicts (update/skip/diff) | | --only <ids> | only these building blocks (capability or file ids, comma-separated) | | --diff | on drift, show the difference local → template | | --svelte / --no-svelte | force Svelte setup / force plain TS setup | | --cwd <path> | target directory (default: current) |

File policies

  • managed (cliff.toml, lefthook.yml, scripts/bump.sh): 3-way sync via the hashes remembered in .udx.json. Untouched-stale files are pulled in by udx sync (improvements flow back); locally modified files are protected as a conflict (--force applies, --diff shows the difference, --interactive asks).
  • create-only (biome.json, tsconfig.json, commitlint.config.mjs, .prettierrc*, .gitignore, renovate.json, CLAUDE.md): only created when they are missing — project adjustments are preserved. Content updates come through the config packages (version bump).

(* Svelte projects only.)

bunfig.toml needs no @urbicon-ui scope mapping (the packages come from the public npm registry). Projects set up by udx ≤0.2.9 carry a mapping to the old Codeberg registry — udx sync removes it, since it would otherwise keep resolving to those frozen copies.

Migrating a project from udx ≤0.2.9

Those projects use the old @urbicon/* scope on Codeberg, which receives no further releases. udx sync handles most of it: it drops the stale bunfig.toml mapping and replaces each @urbicon/* devDep with its @urbicon-ui/* successor.

One step needs a decision, because the consuming configs are create-only and udx never rewrites them unasked: as long as biome.json, tsconfig.json or commitlint.config.mjs still reference the old package, that preset counts as self-managed and its dep is left alone. doctor/status report it as "not wired". Either adjust the reference by hand (@urbicon/… → @urbicon-ui/…) or let udx rewrite the config:

udx sync --only biome --force # likewise: commitlint, tsconfig
udx sync # then swaps the dep and cleans up

package.json is patched idempotently: missing scripts/devDeps are added; diverging values are left as-is and reported (--force overwrites).

Stack awareness (capabilities)

Stack-specific building blocks are bundled into capabilities and are automatically declined when udx detects a competing stack — without project hardcoding:

| Capability | Building blocks | declined when | | ------------- | ---------------------- | ----------------------------- | | git-hooks | lefthook + prepare | husky / .husky/ / simple-git-hooks / core.hooksPath (.githooks/) | | lint-format | biome + lint/format/fix | eslint | | dep-updates | renovate.json | dependabot / own Renovate config (different location or package.json key) |

Declined building blocks are not a target (no doctor error); the decision is persisted in .udx.json. Migration: udx adopt git-hooks && udx sync --only git-hooks.

Monorepo

In the workspace monorepo (array or object form, including Bun catalogs) root building blocks run once at the root; tsconfig is created per TS package (Svelte detected per package, plain asset packages skipped). The project-specific root tsconfig is left untouched.

Manifest (.udx.json)

udx writes a versioned manifest that belongs in git, containing: the most recently written file hashes (3-way drift), declined (declined) and adopted (adopted) capabilities. Hand-editable; corrupt entries are tolerantly ignored.
